“Standard Courtyard with great views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

I had an overnight business stay at this hotel and found the waterfront views lovely. Overall it was a standard Courtyard. Some areas could use a little updating (hall carpets, etc.) but I found it very comfortable with a nice bed, very clean room and convenient (we had a car) for short drives to King Street for dinner and to the work office we were heading to.

I will say that a lady I traveled with was sent to a room that she opened to find someone already staying in it! thankfully he wasn't there when she walked in but still awkward.

Room Tip: I'd definitely get a water view though I'm sure it's higher...

Thanks for taking a moment and posting this great feedback about your recent stay with us. We're glad you were able to enjoy the gorgeous views of the marina and hopefully you were able to catch a sunset during your visit! It's troubling to read of your co-traveler’s experience with her room - those instances are never acceptable and hopefully the front desk was able to immediately fix the situation for her.
Thanks again for staying with us - we appreciate your loyalty to Marriott and we hope we'll see you again soon.

Stayed two night and the property was clean, well mainted and staff friendly and helpfull, a great view of the harbor. had a problem with the TV Remote and the coffee maker, both issues resolved quickly. If they had a free breakfast, this place would be perfect, only a few minutes from the historic district without the $400 a night cost.

Room Tip: Get a room on thye water side.

We're thrilled you had such a great visit to Charleston and thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us. One of the great things about our property is our location - right there on the water and close enough to the Historic District that you get the best of both worlds!
While we're sorry you had a few issues with items in your room not working properly, it's good to hear things were immediately resolved.
Thanks again for this review - we hope we'll see you again soon!

Decided to make an overnight run to Charleston, booked last minute with points. Corner room upgrade, nice room has small balcony looking over channel, nice view. clean room, very nice pool. Overall above the avergae courtyard. I tend to avoid Courtyards as they seem stuck in the 70's (Not every wall has to be yellow). Only two negatives, not close to downtown charleston, and they charge you $6 a person for a ten minute shuttle (even if you are platinum, you get charged to take a Marriott shuttle bus!!) The second issue is my pet peeve with Courtyard across the board, upgrade your bath towels!! You have the thinest, cheapest towels in the industry. Throw out the used worn towels.

Room Tip: Ask for corner room, or waterview

Thanks for taking the time to share this review. We're glad you chose to stay with us for your last minute trip to Charleston, as there are quite a few Marriott properties in this general area.
Know that your comments regarding the towels have been "heard" and the Executive Housekeeper has been notified so she can order those items properly.
Thanks again for your loyalty to the Marriott brand and for giving a Courtyard a chance!

Landscaping is well kept and the Marina view is great. The location is 1 1/2 miles from downtown we walked but everyone else drove or took the hotel shuttle which is $6/ person per day. They have covered and uncovered parking and a wading pool. The staff was very cordial and helpful. The rooms are spartan and the bath towels need to be replaced. We grabbed the pool towels which are nice. The room had a small fridge and microwave but no safe. I'm not a fan of the under the window AC unit (it blew onto the bed).

Room Tip: Stay on the marina side

Thank you for this great feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your visit. We love that you found our property to be "great outside" but we also want to be "great inside" too. I've forwarded your comments regarding the bath towels to our Executive Housekeeper - we're sorry that you had to use the pool towels instead!
We hope we'll see you again on your return visit to Charleston! Thanks!

We were down for the Food & Wine Festival and enjoyed our stay. However make sure you have transportation to food and shopping. We used the shuttle and taxis since parking in town can be a challenge. In fact we even walked back once!
All in all a fine time!

We hope you enjoyed Charleston during the Food & Wine Festival! Our city is especially busy during that event and parking in the historic district can be a challenge on regular weekends - we're glad you were able to utilize the Marriott shuttle service to the Waterfront Park.
Thanks for taking the time to write this review. We hope to see you next year for the F&W Fest as well!

Let me preface this review by saying that we've been to Charleston before and stayed at the Planter's Inn, which we LOVED. This time around, we were looking for a hotel near the City Marina, as my Father in Law was sailing his boat in for the weekend to meet up with us.

The hotel itself is nice. It sits right on the waterway with a perfect view of the Ashley Marina and the City Marina next door. You CAN walk from the hotel to both marinas, but not along the water. There are sidewalks along the road that lead from the hotel to both the Ashley Marina and the City Marina. For the purpose of this particular visit the location was perfect, since we wanted to be able to walk to meet up with my Father-in-Law. However, if you're looking for a hotel that is within walking distance of Downtown, I would say this is not an appropriate choice. The hotel rate, although cheaper than most downtown options, did not make up for all the money we spent on parking fees downtown. If this is a visit to see the downtown Charleston sites, I do not believe this hotel is as convenient as others.

The room was nice. I was disappointed that it did not have a balcony, since the nights are so nice, especially on the water. There were several stains on the carpet and the bathroom wall had marks on it, as well. The sheets were clean though and view was beautiful. I would compare the room to a standard Marriott or Holiday Inn. Nothing spectacular. If you're looking for a place to sleep with clean sheets, these types of hotels always seem to fit the bill.

We found that it was a short drive downtown - less than 5 minutes, so it is definitely a much more desirable location if you have a car. There is not a free breakfast. The pool area was lovely and they had a verandah area, as well that had rocking chairs that overlooked the marina.

Overall, our stay was acceptable. Nothing spectacular, but definitely a cheaper alternative to a downtown Charleston hotel.

Thanks for this review! We know that there are many hotel options in Charleston and we're glad you stayed with us while visiting your father-in-law at the marina. We're happy you found the property comfortable and found time to enjoy the terrace overlooking the Ashley River. On your next visit, we recommend using the Marriott shuttle service into the Historic District - you're welcome to unlimited usage to the Waterfront Park for a once daily fare of $6 per person. The shuttle is definitely a nice option for those wanting to experience both sides of the Charleston Peninsula.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you soon!

The staff and location of this hotel are top notch for this price range! Once you get the hang of accessing the hotel via the Lockwood Drive turnarounds, it is easy to get downtown to the historic district or over to Folly Beach or Mt. Pleasant. The staff was great at check-in and was helpful in finding a good pizza delivery for a late night snack. The deck off the lobby is wonderful: lots of rockers and lounge furniture to sit and enjoy the view of the marina and the Ashley river. We had a nice porch with rockers off our room as well. The view wasn't as nice, but it was still comfortable for a private drink before going out. Parking under the hotel was convenient and complementary which is a big difference from hotels in the historic district. Wireless access was good and the room was spacious with a refrigerator and microwave. There was plenty of kitchen space for people staying longer than a weekend.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with balcony and river view.
