I was very surprised by this hotel. It was super nice, not downtown though but a good spot to stay at. Its about 10 minutes away from downtown. They are doing construction around the hotel right now but it didn't bother me. The staff was great and the hotel was beautiful! Not what I expected at all!

Thank you for your great feedback. The Courtyard-Waterfront's unique setting does set it apart from the rest of Charleston's many great hotels....and it is only a few minutes from downtown Charleston. I am glad you had a great stay, and I hope we will have the chance to have you back soon.

My wife and I stayed three nights in October. Although some don't like the location, it worked well for us. Easy access to Calhoun which gets you into town and back on Spring worked for us throughout our stay. Nice sized pool and looks out over the marina which can be quite pleasant in the evening. Get a marina view and an upper floor room you can have a decent balcony. In October it was pleasant to sit outside. Room was a nice size and comfortable. Fridge and microwave are nice convenience.

The downsides - as many mention there is pile-driving going on next door, but if you are sight-seeing during the day its over by the time you return in the evening. Breakfast is poor quality compared to what I've had at other Courtyard. A/C in our room did not work very well, which would have been a much bigger problem in July.

If you are a devoted Marriott rewards earner / user this is an OK place but I would look at the other properties in Charleston first.

Room Tip: Get an upper floor with Marina view and balcony. First floor balconies are too small.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent visit. The Courtyard-Waterfront does offer a unique waterfront location, with a great view of the Ashley River from the hotel's pool or terrace.

I am sorry that you experienced less than a perfect stay. The construction next to the hotel can be disruptive but as you said, it will not dramatically influence your stay if you are out and about Charleston during the day. Regarding your comments on quality of breakfast, I am somewhat surprised. Out breakfast is one of the most highly rated areas on our guest surveys. It is always possible to have an off day, and if your experience was negatively influenced by that my apologies.

Once again, thank you for the feedback, and I hope you will return soon

Stayed here for a weekend, while visiting son at college. This is not downtown, so if after the hustle and bustle of downtown, you want a quiet area to retire to, this is your place. Our room was clean, with the fan on the AC, there was enough white noise, so I wasn't bothered by the highway. Parking here is free. We ended up driving into the city, which took 2 minutes, and parked near the college. This was not an issue. I am very particular about noise when I sleep, and I found this hotel to be quiet. Staff friendly, beds comfortable, room clean. All in all good.

Room Tip: We got a corner room, with a balcony, which was nice. Could see the water, but mostly the highway.

The Hilton Garden Inn is going up nextdoor and they are banging pilings in. Soooo I would avoid this if you want to use the pool, read or avoid advil. Nice hotel, great location but not now. If you come Saturday afternnon and leave Sunday you are OK Otherwise be forewarned. They will have to sink rates, offer free breakfast until the worst is over but right now it's just sorry, sorry, sorry

Room Tip: You cannot avoid theconstruction noise, anywhere.

Thank you for posting your comments regarding your recent visit. We are very sorry that your stay was less than perfect.

There is construction going on next door, which is unfortunately out of our control. At certain times of the day, it can be disruptive, but the noise is not something that is continuous. Despite this inconvenience, our hotel still offers a great value and a unique location on the Ashley River, features that make the Courtyard a great lodging choice.

An update to my previous review from February this year. Just stayed at the Courtyard again this past weekend, Oct. 5-6, 2012. There is MAJOR construction going on next door to the left of the hotel where they are building a new property. The fairly constant pounding of huge jackhammers during the day while pilings and foundation are being prepared makes it impossible to enjoy the outdoor seating areas -one of the big pluses of this hotel. While they try to place your room as far away from the noise as possible, the right side of the hotel is the least desirable in terms of view. The roads in front of the hotel were also being re-paved, which made access in and out of the hotel a total nightmare. And, after an evidently busy summer, as other reviewers have posted, this hotel is really in need of some maintenance in the public areas and hallways. Even the AC in my room functioned poorly. Staff was very nice, apologetic and accommodating, but there's little they can do, Breakfast was still great!

Can't really recommend the place (without earplugs) until the construction gets to another less-noisy stage or until they make some repairs and updates. Such a shame, as the location works well if you don't mind a short drive into the historic district, and the waterfront location is (was) so pleasant. Call ahead and ask exactly where they're at with construction next door- hopefully you'll get an honest answer.

Thank you for your review of the Marriott Courtyard Waterfront. Thank you for visiting the hotel again this month.

I am sorry that your visit did not meet your expectations. Perfect maintenance and housekeeping are standards that every guest should expect, and it is always disheartening when the hotel falls short of that standard. I assure you that your comments are very important to us and will be addressed.

Once again, thanks for the feedback, and I hope we will have chance to serve you again in the near future.
