Staff was great. Rooms are very nice. But the location is not good if you are mainly there as tourist. Between the new hotel being built next door...and a wedding party taking over most amenities..I feel we were charred too high of price.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your recent visit the the Marriott Courtyard - Waterfront. I am sorry that you feel the hotel is not a good value. As one of the very few Charleston hotels on the water, this hotel has a unique location. There are many factors in setting rates, and we feel that given the quality of the hotel and its location, our rates do offer good value to our guests.

Thanks again for your comments, and I hope you will try us again on a future visit.

For whatever reason, we couldn't get a room in downtown Charleston this weekend, so decided on this hotel because of its location. As noted by other reviewers, the access into and out of the hotel is made difficult by the one-way streets. And the noise from the Hilton Garden Inn construction next to this hotel is loud and starts at 8 AM, even on Saturdays.

Our room was small, very small. The tiny balcony was a nice touch but unusable due to the smell from the water -- but that's not the hotel's fault. Our room was located next to the exercise room and the weights are up against the common wall that we share with that room. Everytime someone replaced a weight -- or rather dropped a weight, on the storage shelves, it sounded as tho a bomb had been dropped in our room. We asked to be moved, but we were told that the hotel was full. The a/c cycles on and off -- loudly enough to awaken us at night. All night.

We used the Green Taxi to get downtown for a flat $10 fee for 1-3 passengers. That worked fine.

We had breakfast this morning at the hotel -- you really have no other choice within walking distance since you are surrounded by highways and construction. Here we were greeted by surly waitresses and cooks. Not a pleasant way to start the day.

So -- beware if you choose this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't get a room next to the exercise room!

We're extremely sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us in October. Charleston tends to get extremely busy during that month due to weddings and other outdoor events as the weather is mild and pleasant, and our hotel remains at full capacity for days. We've got some upcoming renovations in 2013, including a New Lobby! and additional dining options. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you'll consider giving us a chance on your next visit to Charleston.

This hotel is my favorite place to stay in Charleston. While you do need a car or cab to the historic district, parking is easy, the common areas including the 3rd floor outdoor bar and the fire pits are great and the Concierge Lounge is great. Ingress and Egress is not bad once you learn the area.
Stayed for a night this week, which was my 9th or 10th stay at the property.
The Charleston weather is brutal, but the hotel is starting to show some wear. Black mold and peeling stucco in the stairwell, peeling paint on my room door and the closet door. White "chalk" around the windows. Just time to do a little refurbishment based on the rack rate for the hotel.
Despite other reviews, I think the beds sleep fine, there are always 5 pillows on each bed, and the flat screen TV's are current. Great River or Citadel views from the rooms and the rooms on one end of the hotels have small balconies that look out over the river and the sunset.
I'll stay here again next time I'm in the area, just hope to see a little fresh paint.

Thank you for your review, and it is great to hear that this is your favorite place to stay in Charleston. In this city that is high praise.

Perfect maintenance is a standard that we always strive for and is certainly a continuous process. While this time of year is always a challenge......having come out of the summer and going right into the busiest months of the year....... I assure you that we will continue to strive to offer the best possible product to our guests. I appreciate your suggestions, and will certainly bring them to the attention of our maintenance department.

Thanks again, and thank you for making us your lodging choice.

Currently (October 4, 2012) there is a major construction site next door to this hotel. They are building a Hilton Garden Inn. They are using giant noisy machines to drive massive concrete pillars into the ground. So if you're at the hotel, you get to hear, bang bang bang...all day long. Assume this will be going on for some time.

However, this is still a good hotel for it's location and value. It's not too far from everything and is as about half the price of hotels in the downtown district. They do have a shuttle for $6/day all day so you can use that instead of driving. Also the free trolley goes nearby so getting around is pretty easy. Ask for a room with a view and a balcony.

The rooms are nicer than some of the Courtyards I've been to, so I was pleasantly surprised. Flat screen TV, microwave, fridge. But the TV channels are very limited; a bit pet peeve of mine. No Bravo, or HGTV. All in all a good place to stay in Charleston if you're looking for value. Just bring your earplugs.

Room Tip: Not all the rooms have views or balconies, so ask for them if you can.

Thank you for your great feedback regarding you stay with us. We agree that the Courtyard-Waterfront is a great location in terms of its value, and its unique waterfront location. The construction next door is inconvenient, but should not detract from the Charleston experience.

Thanks again, and we hope we will have the chance to serve you again on a future visit.

Common areas are nice, and the rooms was clean and well equipped. The bed, however, was horrible. It was hard as a stone. The traffic pattern trying to get to the property presented a challenge, and the construction next door made things interesting. We won't stay here again.

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay, and I am sorry that your experience fell short of you expectations.

Unfortunately there is road improvement work and construction going on around the hotel at this time. This type of activity is temporarily disruptive, but is part of being in a dynamic city like Charleston. Ultimately both projects will make this part of Charleston, on the beautiful Ashley River, an even more desireable place to be.

Once again, thank you for your comments, and we hope to see you back on the Waterfront soon.
