About a mile from hospital. Stayed the night before my mom's early am surgery. Upscale Marriortt Courtyard. Very nice deck area facing water. Lobby entrance a little different, but good signage to entrance.

Thank you for taking the time to share this positive feedback! We are the closest hotel to the Medical University and we offer our patients families complimentary shuttle service to and from that location. All of here wish your mom the best in her recovery and we look forward to her follow-up visit soon.

Location on river is nice especially while having breakfast on the patio. Housekeeping service was clean enough but careless First day no hair dryer, second day they did not provide hand towels and wash cloths or clean glasses even though the prior ones were removed.

All 3 nights next door guests partied loudly very late--till 2 am on Sunday (or should i say Monday!). Maybe because it was St Patrick's Day weekend, but there was a lot of noise and rude guests shouting in the hallways after midnight. And since we were fairly close to the front desk, they couldn't have missed it. I should have complained while there but didn't. So my bad i guess.

Thank you for sharing the valuable comments regarding two new Room Attendants who were in training during your stay. We have shown their Manager and Inspectors the comments to assure they complete the task assigned. We have as the reviewer may know, a full crew here in the evenings to bring extra items or handle an item missed.

We do have guests or groups who may get loud from time to time as with many establishments. We wished this disturbance was reported to our on Staff Security and Night Supervisor. We could of delt with the disruption right away and may of prevented this from happening the following 2 nights if it was a case of a noisy neighbor. No other concern of noise was reported St. Patricks day weekend by others. We encourage our guests to notify us while they are here of any concerns. Please allow us the chance to make things right during your stay, rather than apologize to you here after the fact.

We checked in to the Charleston Courtyard during a visit of some “specialty group”. People entering and leaving… looking for rooms, checking-in and asking questions. Yet two front desk workers handled the line. We made our way to the front of the line and got the room assigned to us. Corner room, 2nd floor with a view! We were excited. Our first visit to Charlestown. The room was indeed corner, clean as you expect Marriott to be, but the two screens on the sliding glass doors were open to invasion (are there flying insects along the bay). The view of the boats were and bay was exactly what we expected. However, the screens were a mess. One had the side pulled out where it attaches it to the door; the other had a big, (toe size) hole.
We addressed: how to reach downtown with the front desk person. Answer, Choice one, take a walk and a town-sponsored trolley that would carry us to dinner. Second choice, a hotel shuttle at 5 after the hour or 35 after the hour. Choice three, we can take a cab: two choices there pay by rate or meter. We decided on the price fixed taxi. The front desk said the free trolley runs until 10:30 PM so we planned that we would take that one home. Having a wonderful dinner, we walked around Charleston then, map in hand, walked to the noted pick up spot (sign noted correct trolley) near a Starbucks, sat on the step nearby and waited for the arrival. It was late, but not 10:30 PM so finally we called the front desk… “No, I think the trolley stops at 6:00PM.” Well, what shall we do? Call the taxi company we came down town with. They “saved us” in 5 minutes…
Returning to the hotel, we sent time sitting on the balcony and overlooking the water. Very nice. The desk phone did not work… seems a plug was missing from the phone. The towels were not “thirsty”.
Next morning, we addressed the question again to the front desk, where is the shuttle? Different answer… we had the front desk person call the same cab company we had last night. They came quickly. We did a carriage ride and a harbor tour. Excellent! Dinner was outstanding and we called our trusted source of transportation. (See we can learn!) What really set the answer…was it just us? When we arrived at the hotel, three guests were sitting at the hotel bench “Shuttle Pick-up” As we left the cab, I stated… This is a good choice to go downtown. (Pointing toward our taxi)” “No, they replied… this way is free!”
Informed the front desk of our lack of information. They need to correct communication of the issue of "getting to downtown Charleston" . Put it in writing somewhere the same the way they identify the TV channels. True Information: The shuttle to downtown from the Marriott Courtyard is not free…the cost is $6.00 a person. The town trolley is still not clear to us. Still wonder, how did those guests feel waiting for the “free shuttle”; were they surprised when it arrived? We paid $10.00 for each trip by our taxi of choice. That is not per person. The Courtyard is a lovely property. Checking the condition of the screens and the telephone should be routine. The housekeeper was excellent, the room was very clean, but communication and maintenance are lacking. We would return here. Value was good. Just ask for a taxi (fixed price) in place of all the other choices.

Room Tip: A Corner room with a view, lets you see the bay and lots of light.

We appreciate the positive feedback regarding our staff service. We have replaced the screen in the room you identified. The shuttle service for fee is identified on our website and honestly the majority of our guests expect to pay for the service. I have asked our desk staff not to reccomend the free trolly as you must cross highway 17 to get to the stop and it's confusing to explain to guests. I must admit in any city I travel it takes me a try or two to figure out what trasportation feature fits my needs best. I'm glad to hear they learned quick. Thank you again for sharing and we hope to see you soon! PS That's one of my favorite rooms you stayed in!

We went to Charleston for two nights and found the Courtyard to be the perfect place to unwind after touring the city during the day. They had a shuttle for a nominal fee that took you into town and all you had to do is call for pick up. The rooms were good and even though we did not go into the pool, it certainly looked inviting.

Thank you for these positive comments regarding our prime waterfront location with fantastic views. Most downtown hotels have an alley or building view with no pools so we are very proud of what we offer. You have got to come back and experience our large waterfront pool and hot tub!

The day of our arrival, we lucked out with a delightful warm afternoon and enjoyed sitting on the veranda sipping wine overlooking the river. The folks at the hotel were very courteous and the concierge quite helpful. Rooms were spacious. A lovely getaway!

The hotel was run down for a Courtyard. Carpets and furnishings were worn and dated, although they have updated the TVs in the room. On the upside, I had the King corner room and had a beautiful view of the Ashley River. The hotel itself is not located near the historic part of downtown, so don't expect much of the Old Charleston experience.

I had the breakfast buffet and was extremely disappointed. I have had better free breakfast at lower tier hotels. The "Belgian Waffles" they advertise were the "do it yourself waffle maker". Limited choices on their "buffet". They advertised eggs made to order, but the staff seemed put out when I asked for an egg over easy. Later when I checked out and gave the front desk my feedback, they brought the resturant manger over and she made it a confrontation scene. They then said they would take 10% off and it took ten minutes for them to figure it out. Wish I had just kept my mouth shut.

Room Tip: King corner with River view. Skip the restaurant.

I'd like to welcome this gentleman to TripAdvisor and thank him for sharing his perceptions regarding he and his wife's visit to Charleston. We were able to identify the reviewer due to specific comments. They arrived here using rewards points for a standard room and were upgraded to our premium waterfront corner room as a courtesy. The room itself had a total renovation with brand new lighting, furniture, seating, carpeting and much more just a few months ago.

Our F&B Manager served he and his wife in the restaurant that day with no concern and received a good tip. Our buffet offering is currently ranked in the top 15% of all Courtyards for guest approval and we are very proud of this accomplishment. Later that morning the Restaurant Manager was called to the desk and offered a discount for having to make his own waffle, with no confrontation.

In reading the other reviews he posted that same day it seems the entire trip was not a good experience for them. Our team sends apologies for the less than satisfying visit to Charleston. The hotel, the attractions used and the restaurants they dined at all strive to make sure every impression is positive for our visitors. I am sorry if this was not the case for their visit.

During the months of February and March 2012, our family had a sibling hospitalized at MUSC - Medical University of South Carolina. We spent over 3 weeks at this hotel location and could not have been happier. The staff was amazingly accommodating, thoughtful and helpful. We traveled back and forth at odd hours during this period. They were very helpful. The hotel shuttle is free of charge to go over to the hospital campus.

It was helpful to know we had a comfortable hotel to come back to after long days and nights at the hospital. They also offer a reduced rate (with documentation) for families of patients. Because our stay was so long, this was very much appreciated.

The hotel location is quite convenient to the historic area of Charleston. For those who like to walk, it is only about a mile or so to shops, restaurants and other sightseeing opportunities. The hotel offers a shuttle to these areas too for a small fee.

The hotel restaurant only offers breakfast which can be a little inconvenient but there are so many wonderful restaurants nearby that it is better to venture out anyway.

I'm hoping not to travel to Charleston again soon but if I do, I will definitely choose to stay here again. The staff made our challenging situation a bit easier to bear. Thank you so much!!
