Stayed here with 3 teenagers for a look at College of Charleston. Room was very spacious, bathroom VERY small. Great location, close to shopping and restaurants

stayed at the Francis Marion for 5 nights - wonderful central hotel and courteous and efficient staff - from check in to check out. We had a problem with our toilet and it was attended to immediately - Nothing in this hotel was a problem and free internet was a bonus.
A staff member called Jere went out of his way to help me make an airline booking when i was having difficulty with airline, because i was not a u.s citizen and had no u.s address.
Would stay there again.

Stayed here for a conference which was held in the hotel. Charleston is very very charming. This hotel is in the perfect area for walking and seeing all the sights. It is old, that is for sure. The rooms are small and the bathrooms even smaller. The room was adequate for me but it wasn't the grandest property I have ever been in. The shower pressure was very low, the shower curtain was moldy even though I specifically asked the maid to change it. Great views from the hotel windows. Like I said, within walking distance to all the sights. Over priced at $139 but, I don't think there are many less expensive hotels around. The food in the hotel is fabulous..catered and in the restaurant. I would not stay here again if I were in Charleston in June, I would stay at one of the other hotels that have a pool.

my best friend and i stayed at the francis marion july 2-4. the location on king street couldn't have been better--right across from marion square park and within walking distance to great restaurants and pubs. (i recommend raval and chai's for drinks and socializing) unfortunately, the bathrooms were very small...no extra space anywhere at all. also, the ventilation system in the bathroom was poor. it got extremely hot and steamy after a shower...so leave the door open!
other than that, rooms are a decent size and clean. interior is a bit outdated but still nice.
room service ends at 11pm, so don't expect to find something to eat for a late-night snack at the hotel. there is complimentary bottled water in the room, which was a plus.
customer service was good. jerry at front desk and peter were personable and gave helpful tips during our stay.
overall, the hotel is in a prime location and is a safe choice when visiting charleston.

It was a good stay! My first honeymoon night (6-21-08). Very nice hotel. It was $17.00 for parking.

Our room had a King Size Bed, the view was nice, the bathroom was very nice, just small. Nice Linen, a Soft and Comfortable bed.

I don' t have too many complaints. All and all it was for only one night, we had to fly out the next morning. The receptionist were very friendly, and so was the guests, Congratulating me and my new husband, It was a nice hotel!

My husband and I were visiting the south and decided at the last minute to stay in Charleston after staying in Savannah. We stopped in the visitors center and booked this highly recommended hotel at a discounted price.

The hotel staff behind the front desk weren't as friendly as one would expect. We weren't treated with the same smiling faces that we had received earlier in our trip at other hotels.

I really like historic buildings but I expect them to be clean when I'm paying to stay in one. The bathroom was unacceptable-mildewed chipped tub and leaky non flushing toilet. Somehow my husband even managed to get himself locked in the bathroom without ever turning lock?? He was ready to check out right then. The only good thing about the room was that the bed was extra soft and comfortable- the only reason I gave it a 2 star rating instead of 1.

The food at the restaurant wasn't very good either. My steak tasted like it was past it's expiration date. My husband ordered a medium-well burger and received it more on the rare side.

We were originally going to spend 2 nights, but after that experience we were glad we only booked 1 night- and that was one too many.

We have just returned from a week's vacation through NC. SC, and GA. On our third night we booked a room at the Francis Marion Hotel. We found this hotel on it's website and thought it looked interesting. To our surprise when we checked in, the girl at the desk told us that they had up-graded us to the Francis Marion Suite. We had two beautiful rooms, one a sitting room with a sofa, dining room table, and a flat-screen TV. The other room was our bedroom with an extremely comfortable bed, bathroom, and flat-screen TV. The bathroom was a bit small but the bathtub was huge compared to ours at home. Our room was at the very end of the hall so it was quiet down there. The girls behind the front desk were very knowledgeable and friendly. The lobby of the hotel was elaborately furnished with beautiful chandeliers. We ended up staying two nights there and both nights we watched baseball games in the bar.
We had heard about this dish called Shrimp Grits Martini. So we tried it and it was delicious. In the hotel is a Starbucks, so every morning we would go there for coffee and pumpkin bread. We loved this hotel!
