We had a wonderful experience at the Francis Marion. Loved the "Old Charm" of the hotel. Had a good dinner at Coast however we have eatten at the Library and nothing compares to it.

Beautiful old hotel. Staff was great. Nice rooms-very clean and comfortable. Great location. Across from Marion Square park. Easy to walk to Market area. Would recommend to family and friends. Only downside-didn't think hotel restaurant was very good. Breakfast too expensive. Lots of great restaurants in the city, so you can skip eating here.

Hotel was within walking distance to all sights, shopping and eatries in Charleston.
Lobby was nice, staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were average. Bathroom was small. I expected a small bathroom due to the fact that the hotel was a historical "old" building. You couldn't open the closet door without the bathroom door being fully opened. Homeless lived across the street in small park. Our room faced the main street and park. Lots of noise, not quiet at all and kept us up all night. I would go back to Charleston but not to the Francis Marion. I think the write ups and brochure over rate this hotel.

Just spent 3 glorious days at the Francis Marion! Charleston is a beautiful, active city and we were right in the middle of it. You can walk to everything...or take a pedicab ($4). Can't beat the FM for location, amenities and the nicest, nicest staff! Making plans for my return already...and bringing friends!

Room Tip: Request a room with two bathrooms (they have them). Prep time cut in half!

I would definitely recommend staying at the Francis Marion Hotel for your stay in Charleston. Of course it is beautiful, but the service is wonderful. Everyone makes you feel like you are a VIP and they will do whatever they can to make your stay a pleasant one.

Room Tip: Just ask...they will accomodate you if at all possible!

While the staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in to our room very early, we were not thrilled with our stay here. We had decided to "splurge" and stay at a nice hotel in downtown Charleston. This hotel was not worth the money that we paid for it. While the room was nice and the beds were comfortable, the hotel seemed to be in dire need of some major repairs. Heed the reviews -- the hotel is somewhat of a hike from major attractions in downtown Charleston. We never minded the walk at the beginning of the day, but at the end of the day we found the mile + walk back to the hotel to be less than ideal. We also found ourselves wishing for a pool after long walks in hot Charleston. We fell in love with the city -- and will definitely be back -- but if we are going to spend $250/night again in Charleston, we will stay at a b&b or at a different hotel!

My friends and I took a last minute trip to Charleston, SC for the 4th of July where we stayed at the Francis Marion on King St. Not only is this hotel in the heart of everything, their service was outstanding. From the Bellman, Front Desk Clerks to the Conceirge, everyone was warm & friendly. Be prepared the hotel is older and the bathrooms are small, but when you are aware you can adjust accordingly. The beds are great! Hope to go back again in the near future.
