Review of Butcher & Bee - CLOSED

Butcher & Bee
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $15 - $35
Description: Butcher & Bee started out serving honest-to-goodness sandwiches made with flavor combinations and food quality usually reserved for fine dining. Now their offerings have grown beyond sandwiches to all types of foods. And they bring them to you from local farmers who produce spectacular flavors. Supporting local and sustainable is not a slogan. It's the right thing to do, and the food tastes better for it.

My husband and I visited the new Butcher & Bee on a date night for the second time in 2 weeks. Both times we visited, we were very impressed with the quality and flavors of each dish. The restaurant was full so we chose to be seated at the bar top with a view of the kitchen. We enjoyed watching the chefs carefully and thoughtfully preparing each dish. We ordered a lot of vegetarian items and my husband who is more of a meat eater loved everything. I definitely recommend the mezze to start. It's a great value and a nice variety of different flavors. Our favorites of the four plates we chose were the whipped feta with honey (the perfect combination of sweet and savory) and the kale slaw. We also ordered the mushrooms and garlic (so tasty!). The crispy potatoes are a must! They have a unique, smoky flavor and come with an avocado chimichurri. The seafood salad was so fresh and light and my husband enjoyed the lamb ribs very much. The owner was making his rounds the night we were there. He is so friendly and is obviously very passionate about what he does. The restaurant is family friendly and more on the casual side, but modern. Don't miss the sugar scrub in the restroom. I loved it so much, I bought one for our guest bathroom at home. Definitely worth the splurge! We look forward to visiting again for breakfast and lunch!

This place was amazing!! The wait staff was super sweet and helpful. The food was sooo delicious, especially the whipped feta cheese with pita bread. Their snicker doodle cookie sandwich was the perfect way to finish off our meal. Almost forgot, our kids loved their house-made ketchup!

The new location of Butcher and Bee is very different. The first thing is that you are seated by a hostess. The menu has many of the same types of sandwiches with fresh baked bread. There are now numerous small items that can be sides or can be combined for a meal. The burger is double cooked to desired doneness on a brioche bun with a side of crispy fries. The sandwiches are huge and can easily be shared if adding sides. They are now open for dinner with a larger selections and even in the afternoon with the small plate items. The burger is really killer. I have gone out on a limb with a 5 star rating but it really is that good. The now have alcohol as well as parking. Its next to Edmunds Oest.

After going to a Spoleto event decided to try a restaurant that we have frequented many times on Morrison Dr. but was told upon arrival at 4:50PM that dinner would not be served until 5:30PM! Walking out companion and I spotted the Butcher & Bee and decided to try it as they were serving already! Seated immediately and looked at the fine decor that this restaurant developed. Only open one month so we didn't know what to expect! Server came over and welcomed us and we fired away many questions about the restaurant. All answered with a full knowledge of this dining establishment. Ordered beer and a cocktail featuring locally distilled vodka (martini)! Reviewed menu with server and was overwhelmed by the number of appetizers! They had a special - four appetizers for $18.00--an nice sampler!
Drinks came and companion raved about the martini!! Decided on splitting entree of mahi mahi , which our server said would be outstanding!
Appetizers came and the four we selected
were outstanding, tasty and made with great care!
Main course entree was served and it also was supurb. Both of us enjoyed our entree!
We did not save as any room for dessert as the meal was filling even after sampling the apps!
This restaurant is a real gem in Charleston and the executive chef is on top of her game!
Very rarely does Uncle Mo rate a restaurant five stars but this one was well deserving! Don't pass up on this fine eating eztablishment-it won't disappoint! Prices are moderate with lots of care in food preparation!

I was a frequent customer of the old Butcher & Bee on King Street, which I loved. So I was eager to try the new restaurant on Morrison. I've got mixed feelings about the place. On one hand, the food is terrific. The flavors and farm-to-table focus make this place special. On the other hand, the interior has the personality of a new college dining hall, and the acoustics are so lousy that even the waitress had to lean forward to get our orders. It's a fixable problem that I hope they work on.

Hi Tony,

Happy to report that we recently installed sound paneling which has greatly improved the acoustics in the space. Now you can actually hear your date.

Hope to see you back in soon.

Michael
