Turned up taking pot luck on the town & motel after a depressing few hours in a very disappointing Columbia after what had otherwise been a great day twin lane blacktopping the backroads up from Hilton Head prior to going to the reenactment at Camden the next day on 1 Nov. I guessed that the furthest motel from the highway might be the cheapest.
Nothing special about the room - sink marbling had some chips in it but felt safe with lots of guests around. Maybe I caught the staff on a good day but I found them Very helpful - they asked if I liked BBQ & told me about Pig on The Ridge in Ridgeway that night and confirmed that the floodlights I could see was a local High school football match. I walked 3 minutes from the motel towards the lights and paid to see the last 2 quarters of the Bengals match (lost 35-7) (very friendly staff) before driving over to Ridgeway to really put the icing on what had (apart from Columbia) been a great Halloween.
Light sleepers might not like the proximity to a railroad crossing several hundred yards away towards the stadium - as a tourist I loved the occasional airhorns in the night air and saw a long train in the morning after an acceptable waffle, bagel juice & coffee breakfast.
Perfectly acceptable as a one night no frills motel.More
