The course is beautiful, with many opportunities to see the area wildlife. We walked with a caddy and enjoyed the experience. Some of the greens are tricky - it is a Jack Nicklaus design - but is well worth playing.

We've played Pinehurst and Harbour Town and many other great courses, but this is one of the best when you take into consideration the design of the course, the scenery, and the pace of play. It was mid-March and cool when we played, but cool is relative. In Ontario, my wife and I play until there's snow on the ground, so we think of low 50s as a great day for golf. Since this is a private course and gets relatively little play at this time of year, (and probably most of that from guests at the Inn), you can play at your chosen speed. We let one guy go through on the first day and never saw another golfer during our second round.

Ask for a caddie named Jack. He's very knowledgeable, very friendly, and really helped us with finding wayward tee shots, lining up putts, and generally making our round a pleasure. We're not used to playing with a forecaddie, and we certainly wouldn't want one every day, but it was well worth it this time.

You can get a very good idea of the course from the website description. There is a lot of sand, a certain amount of water, and plenty of trees. In other words, you can get into trouble easily. There are also a number of alligators to be seen--big and small--but I don't consider those a hazard. My wife enjoyed the course as much as I did, so it's not intimidating for short hitters. We would be delighted to play it again.

Great weather, views, course had interesting hazards. A bobcat walked in front of us on one of the holes.

If you wish to experience the beautiful Lowcountry of the Hilton Head area, don't
miss seeing Palmetto Bluff. The site of several antebellum plantations, the Inn
area boasts beautiful reproduction homes and a chapel. Don't miss the great
food at the Buffalo restaurant on the site. Worth going through the guard gate
to get a pass to this beautiful place on the May River.
