Food was excellent. Served bread with oil, honeyed garlic, red pepper sauce and parmesan cheese which was terrific. Staff was very friendly. Would definitely return.

We eat out often and support locally owned Bluffton establishments. We were excited to try this new Italian restaurant. Everyone in our group was disappointed. One said "we could get better Italian food and service at Olive Garden!" Poor service and rude behavior from wait staff and two men who appeared to be the owners. No one made us feel welcome or checked to see if we were satisfied with our food. The quality of the food was mediocre at best. A few specifics: too long a wait for drinks and bread, silverware not set for everyone, food presentation was bland and unappealing(we eat with our eyes first), my roasted beet salad was NOT roasted, my risotto was cold yellow rice, pasta sauce was watery and tasteless and on and on. Our bill was over $100. We would gladly pay this amount or more for quality food and service. I have never written a review but I felt compelled to do so after this unpleasant experience. Perhaps the owners will make some changes for the better. We would hate to see another local Bluffton restaurant close.

Recently, a (paid for) article appeared in The Island Packet, a local newspaper, touting the "joyous combination" of steaks and Italian cuisine at DiMare's, so one of the members of our eating-out group from a local plantation, and one who failed to check Tripadvisor in advance, made reservations for the group. Not checking Tripadvisor, or even some other rating service, was the first mistake. We all arrived at the restaurant, located as it is in a nondescript spot at a semi-strip mall on highway 46 near the Old Town of Bluffton, and promptly sat down at our long table - the place having tables in the middle, booths along the sides, not bad, not too dark and not too loud. That was a good beginning. But service was iffy from the start, partly related to the wait staff, who might have been overloaded, but also from someone who was proclaimed to be the "half owner" of the place, who stood around without a single smile, helped out a little, and did virtually nothing to welcome a $500 table. Can you imagine that happening back home in Queens? A few of us ordered martinis. Mine arrived after 15 minutes, 1/3 full (see photo), which, after I ordered a second, means that I had one almost full $20 drink, a real rip off. Next, we wondered, being that this was proclaimed to be an Italian restaurant, if there weren't some bread for the table, plus appropriate things like olive oil to accompany it for dipping. We were told that the bread "was in the oven," which must have been broken since it took 45 minutes in total to reach the table. Was it the nice crusty Italian bread we all like? No, it was odd-tasting and pretty awful. Okay, so then food appeared. One of us got the "roasted beet" salad (photo), which contained all of the proper ingredients except roasted beets. The beets were plain, room temperature, tasting right out of a jar. Another ordered fried calamari. They were presented as a plate of tasteless, gummy little rings (photo) without a tentacle in sight, no better than would have been served (fresh from the freezer) at a fast food joint. Someone further had a dish with "broccoli rabe," which came instead with boiled or steamed broccoli, definitely not rabe. Did the chef know what was on the menu, we wondered? Did he have a clue how to do a proper presentation? The servers, the manager (we think) and the owner never asked, never checked? Nothing. Then came the main courses. Two people had linguini with clam sauce, one red and one white (photo), both served with an amply supply of sand, both without a hint of garlic and without a sprinkle of parsley, an Italian tradition. Did they run out or don't they know better? A few clams were unopened and even a novice cook like me (who has taken cooking courses) knows to remove them before putting a dish "in the window." Another had the touted Frutta Dimare (photo), lots of nice seafood over al dente pasta in a white sauce. It was good, but lacking in garlic or other robust seasonings, without a garnish, and was only lukewarm. Still another of the group had crab cakes (photo), which were mostly but not totally crab, accompanied by what the menu said was risotto, but was actually yellow rice that tasted the same as the one-minute microwavable variety. So we finished up as best as we could, got our checks, which included a 20% gratuity, skipped desert (afterward going to Josie's for some healthful frozen yogurt) and left, arguing who was more at fault for choosing DiMare's, the lady who wanted to try the place or me, a Tripadvisor contributor, for not checking and advising her against it.

We tried this place last week and found it to be good. Service was excellent and the food was
very good. Some in our party felt the hanger steak was a bit tough, but then it is flank steak so I think that is not unusual. The Fettuccine Primavera was excellent and as was the Chicken Parmigiana. Pretty good value for $13.95 We will go back again and again.

The restaurant is nicely decorated. The food is pricey, but ok.The restaurant presents itself as rather upscale. Our waitress needed training, her abilities need to be raised to a higher more classy level than was demonstrated. The waitress handled herself more like a waitress in an Ihop or Waffle House. We won't be going back.
