Owner description: Make this your first stop when visiting historic Bluffton, South Carolina. Whether you'd like to tour the house-museum, have questions about local history, need maps of the area, or just want to know where to have lunch while you're in town-- we would love to see you! The Heyward House was constructed circa 1841, and is one of only eight antebellum homes remaining in the Lowcountry coastal town of Bluffton, South Carolina. In 1998, the home was purchased by the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society and opened to the public for tours, field trips, and events. In addition to being a beautifully preserved house-museum, the Heyward House also acts as the official town Welcome Center, providing maps, information, menus, and more to visitors and residents. Because of its well-preserved condition, the Heyward House is now an Official Project of the Save America's Treasures Program, a public-private partnership between the White House Millennium Council and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The home is open to the public for tours Monday - Friday: 10-5 and Saturday 10-4. Group tours and guided walking tours of the historic district are available with advanced reservations.

“Good tour”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

If you are into history as my husband is this is definitely a place to go and you really should take the guided tour it is def worth it. This is not only for adults both our kids 9&6 enjoyed themselves and like to hear how things were done years ago. I think they also enjoyed hearing on how things show up on the May River and if someone finds it they leave it for the artist in town on her front lawn and she then puts it on her property.

Reviewed December 14, 2012

Go here for a tour of the house $5, get a self walking guide, or call ahead for a district walking tour with guide for $15. Open Mon-Fri 10-4 and 11-2 on Sat.
Staff were friendly, helpful and very courteous.

“The Heyward House Experiencce”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

......a must visit in ordder to experience the rich history of the Low Country during the antebellum period. The integration of furnishings and personalizing of the home, a hat placed on a chair, a shawl laid carefully in the living room, a cradle in the bedroom and a few dresses in the closet etc, give one the impression that the family "just stepped out for a bit." The docent's knowledge and enthusiasm of the history and families of Heyward House offer the visitor a true appreciation of this pivotal time in South Carolina history. Natasha

Part of the lazy south towns offerings. Mother's Day weekend offers a great festival on Calhoun Street.
