The house was rebuilt to resemble the original. The home is beautiful. The remaining grounds are pretty (unfortunately the home is now in a housing plan). The house has interesting items from the Civil War. I really enjoyed the information about the Kirk family and their history in the house. You will learn many details about the current family and will view many of their collections (that are not from the Civil War era.) I think less emphasis should be on the current family and more on the original owners.
The tour was informative. You are not able to view the upstairs due to the current family living in the home. We did not get a tour of the grounds. It would have been nice to view the grounds and learn the history of the surroundings.

This was a very historical, interesting tour. the home is lovely, the tour guide very informative. It survived the Civil War because it looks like a church, so the Union used it to treat the wounded. Afterwards, we had snacks & refreshments that were included. very well worth the time & money!!

We had a great time, and learned a great deal about the history of the mansion and the area. Wonderful baked goods as a treat after the tour.

$25 per person may cause a person to say no to this historical site. We considered it to be a partial donation to the owners efforts to maintain and share the property.
