Was I mistaken or misled? I wanted to see a plantation house. This is a beautifully restored old house, but it is NOT a plantation house. It's a place for some rich guy to show off the stuff he's collected from around the world over the past 30 years, and then charge us to see it. This house does not depict the plantation house of the 1800's. Plus, when we got there a little too early for our tour, we were told to leave the premises immediately and not come back until our assigned time. Nice house, but not what I wanted to see.

Learned history I had not been aware of. Jane the hostess was very friendly. The tour involved standing in one place and could be challenging for seniors or people with knee and leg issues. The homemade refreshments were delicious!

Kim was our tour guide/docent and she is a master story teller!! We thoroughly enjoyed our history lesson along with a complete tour of the mansion, its environs and the great snacks and beverages offered at the end of the guided tour. We loved the way this is a living history mansion as the White family lives here and welcomes tours into their home as part of their average day and way of life. The collections are phenomenal; the history of the plantation and the renovation of the home is a wonderful story. Such a jewel in the heart of the low-country. Gift shop items and foods are also a nice addition to the experience.

I highly recommend visiting Rose Hill Mansion (make reservations on line or call before you go). Wonderful view of life around the civil war and forward, very interesting talks about the areas early settlers, and admirable story about the current owner's efforts to save and restore this wonderful historic treasure.

Lovely gothic mansion fully restored to its former glory by the current owners. Wonderful history lesson by tour guide and tasty refreshments afterwards. A nice way to spend the afternoon.
