Owner description: The historic Rose Hill Mansion, known as the most beautiful plantation house in the Low Country, has long held a treasured place in Southern history. Originally built in the late 1850s by planter and physician, Dr. John Kirk and his wife Caroline, the plantation was a wedding present from Caroline's father, James Kirk. Work was halted by the Civil War, and while occupied through the years, the interior was not completed until 1946, when new owners John and Betsy Gould Sturgeon finished it in grand style. In 1980, the Welton family purchased the land and the house was later listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1987, a fire devastated the house & it sat in a state of ruin until purchased and restored by The Middleton White Foundation. After a decade long restoration, the home is now shared with the public each day, via guided history tours. Reservations are required for all tours.

Outstanding tour and history of the mansion. Our docent was Joan who was great as she not only had the details but she had flair and southern charm! This was the only home tour that allowed photographs and this was great as the furniture and pieces were exceptional. I rate this as a must see for anyone in Savannah or Hilton Head.

Second time there and still learned and saw new things. Always fun to speak with the owners. A wonderful gem.

Really enjoyed the tour of Rose Hill Mansion. Our guide was amazing, very informative and passionate about the mansion. Wine was offered at the beginning of the tour and Miss Pat's treats at the end of the tour were delicious. Meeting the owner, Robin, and Miss Pat was a highlight.

Let me begin by saying this house is beautiful! However this plantation wasn't like any others I have visited before. The owners still occupy the home so you only tour a few rooms of the home. The fee to tour this home was very high for what you get to see! It was below average of all the plantations I have seen over the years!

Beautiful old home that has been restored after a devastating fire. You are given the history of the property (Pre Cival War) and the home. At the end of the tour, you are treated to various southern snacks to try.
