Owner description: The historic Rose Hill Mansion, known as the most beautiful plantation house in the Low Country, has long held a treasured place in Southern history. Originally built in the late 1850s by planter and physician, Dr. John Kirk and his wife Caroline, the plantation was a wedding present from Caroline's father, James Kirk. Work was halted by the Civil War, and while occupied through the years, the interior was not completed until 1946, when new owners John and Betsy Gould Sturgeon finished it in grand style. In 1980, the Welton family purchased the land and the house was later listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1987, a fire devastated the house & it sat in a state of ruin until purchased and restored by The Middleton White Foundation. The Mansion is permanently closed until further notice.

The lunch menu is very good, not sure about dinner. The atmosphere is an older golf clubhouse they are renovating soon. Food and service are good at a reasonable price.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rose Hill Mansion. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the powder room to the right of the foyer is not to be missed - an actual throne. We loved the welcome glass of wine (for purchase) and the delicious lunch presented by Miss Pat. Unlike other homes we visited, pictures were allowed, as well as wandering wherever we desired in the open rooms, with food and wine in tow no less. A true gem.

Worth the admission and time it takes to drive out to see! Incredible architecture and interior details take your breath away! The only downside was the mosquitos outside were huge and everywhere! Take your repellant with you.

The History Tour of the beautiful grounds and interior of the 10,000 sq. foot mansion was a delightful way to spend an afternoon! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the artifacts, furnishings and decor provided a vivid picture of the last 200 years of life in the low country! The live oak trees surrounding the house have stood the test of time for the last 200 to 430 years! At the the conclusion of the tour, a wide selection of homemade delicacies for our dining pleasure were provided! This is a wonderful tour which is well worth the cost!

Upon entering the property, you are stunned by it's beauty....it takes you back to a different time. You are greeted by a knowledgeable Host giving you all the details of the history of this amazing Plantation. We were offered to purchase a glass of wine and permitted to tour the 1st floor with it in hand. Afterwards, were treated to tasty bites. If you are as lucky as we were, you will have the pleasure of meeting the VERY GRACIOUS present Home Owners....This visit is a "Must Do" Event!
