“Yeah, it's THAT good!”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

Step through the door and you come face to face with a steam table loaded with freshly-cooked Southern foods. The day we were there, the choices included pulled pork, ribs, meatloaf, fried and BBQ chicken, and fried whiting. Down-home Southern-cooked vegetable selections and delicious homemade desserts round out the offerings. A truly personable proprietress is right there at the steam table to show off each item and make up your plate for you. If you bend down a bit, you can see a roaring pit fire through an opening in the wall behind the steam table. You pay up front and take your plate off to the left into a charming mid-century dining room. There is absolutely nothing "chain restaurant" or "corporate" about this place. Actually, it seems a little like a hobbit residence. Prices are easy on the wallet. BBQ aficionados have written that they would drive 100 miles to eat here if they had to--yeah, it's THAT good!

“LOVED THIS PLACE”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

This place is a step back in time. The lady who dishes up the food and calls out the orders warms your heart. The smoked BBQ pork melts in your mouth. Red and white checkered tablecloths and a view of folks going about their daily business on the street of this local downtown restaurant. Priceless atmosphere, Great food and Southern hospitality experienced here.

“Omg!!!! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven!!!!”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

Just moved to Beaufort and drove by Sgt. White's a few times and decided that I had to try it. I'm a New Englander by birth so good, old Southern food is not what I'm accustomed to. For 6.99 you get a main course and 2 sides and for 8.99 3 sides. I had pulled pork - indescribably delicious. My friend had ribs - juicy, meaty and sooooo tasty. Sides included; macaroni and cheese, fried okra, spiced cabbage, collards, spicy corn, green beans, etc.. Meals come with lemonade or iced tea. For dessert; sweet potato pie, pecan pie and an apple thing. Everything I had was delicious and they give you enough food for an army. The hours are very limited - 11 - 3, I think . Don't miss it - sooooo good!!

“Awful”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Looks like typical southern steam-table barbeque, but it is worse. Stay away. Food is flavorless, overcooked, stringy, and without merit.....but you do get lots of it.

“drove 7 hours to get there before they closed!!!!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

What can I tell you - once you eat at Sgt White's, you want to go back!!!! We knew we were headed to Beaufort for an overnighter - so we left early to get there before they closed for the day!!! This is just great southern food - bbq, chicken, meatloaf, pork chops, limas, okra, cabbage, greens, corn, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes...... YUMMMMM!!!! Your entrée, two sides, cornbread and drink are $8.99 and I promise you won't want to eat anything else the rest of the day!!! This is our 4th trip to Sgt White's and we have never been disappointed!!!!
