We ran across Griffin Market while exploring coastal Beaufort. Fairly new on the Beaufort scene, it was a terrific surprise. Chef owned, the menu changes daily and meticulous attention is paid to each dish. Ricardo pays attention to each guest and can help with wine selections. A definite must visit when you are spending time in Beaufort.

“Best meal that I can remember EVER having!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013

We'd never been to Beaufort and visited for 1 day. After reading on trip advisor that one couple drives from Charleston just to enjoy a meal at Griffin, I thought we had to try it. Upon checking into our hotel room, the concierge said Griffin is her favorite restaurant! Now I was really encouraged and looking forward to dinner. I was truly awed by the delicious 4 course meal of appetizer, 1st course, 2nd course and dessert. Each course was spaced so that we truly had a relaxed, fine dining experience. In addition to the unusually exquisite meal, we had the choice of many wines not widely available for general purchase. The staff is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. And the owners are obviously pursuing their passion. This restaurant and its wine selection are a rare gem that I never expected to find in low country. The superb northern Italian cooking took me by complete surprise! WOW! If you like fine dining, you wont be disappointed and are missing a truly fabulous experience if you pass up this restaurant.

“Magnificent Piedmont Italian Cuisine in Beaufort, SC...James Beard, are you listening?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

Having moved to Columbia, SC from Washington, DC in 2010, there were a few things we missed from the "big city." World class Northern Italian cuisine was one such thing...or so we thought...

On recent trips to Beaufort (last August and this March), and much to our delight, we re-discovered the absolutely amazing, fantastic and superb Griffin Market. There are not enough adjectives to describe the culinary delights to be found at Griffin. Chef Laura Bonino is, quite simply, a master of using locally sourced (many farm to table and ocean to table) ingredients prepared in the delightful traditions of Piemonte, Italia. Her exquisite preparations will make you want to jump up and down and say BRAVISIMO!

As with any great relationship, Chef Laura's delicacies are complemented by an absolutely INCREDIBLE wine selection expertly paired with your food by Riccardo Bonino. Not only will your taste buds be thrilled by the food but they will want to sing with joy upon sipping from Griffin's excellent, excellent wine selection and pairings.

Our last visit was March 8, 2013, this past Friday night and WOW did we have an amazing experience. Riccardo remembered us from our visit last August and had a romantic corner table for two by the window awaiting our arrival. We asked to be fed (a chef's tasting) and words cannot do justice to the exquisite cuisine and delicious wine we enjoyed...we had starters of
veal (almost like a carpaccio) with fresh tuna and frutti di mare salad with octopus, mussels and other delights; second course dishes of kale pasta with fava bean, asparagus and peas and a bolognese prepared with wild boar (SAVORY & DELICIOUS), as well as a main course of seared duck breast that was simply to die for...all throughout the dining experience, which lasted almost 3 and 1/2 hours, we were treated by courteous and professional servers and the always charismatic Riccardo, who spent considerable time showing us some fine selections from his wine cellar. We were made to feel like part of the family!

If a customer's highest compliment is repeat business, then (with 2 visits already) you will know how much we love and recommend Griffin Market. In fact, it is so good, we are willing to drive 2 and 1/2 hours from Columbia to enjoy it (and then spend the night in lovely Beaufort)!

Griffin Market = Amore di Cuccina!

“Surprise in Beaufort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

Having never been in Beaufort SC before, we did not know what to expect, but we certainly did not expect to find an extraordinary restaurant offering fine Nothern Italian cousine. And it certainly does not give the outward apperance of anything special. The menu, which changes daily, is remarkable and imaginative, combining the best of Italy with some low country touches. We enjoy trying new things, so we could not resist the bruschetta with rabbit liver. Loved it! Don't try to get out without trying all four courses. Three, at least. Our waiter was well informed and helpful. Atmosphere inside is quietly elegant. A very special experience!

“Fabulous meal w/great wine pairings! A must!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed a fabulous meal last night during my first visit to Beauforts's Griffin Market. What a gem! A tremenous foodie-vin lover expeience. Had the pulled mozzarella and beet salad starter, wonderful with a thick high quality balsamic vinegar. Second course was a spectacular oxe tail ravioli which was flawless and even better paired with a delicious super Tuscan off their wine list. I gave the server to surprise me with the 3rd course and she chose a lovely Italian seafood medley in a delicious broth. The home made deserts were wonderful. I had the berries with Italian custard and others had the tiramisu and the incredible rum pudding. The restaurant was modest in size and had an ample bar for those that like dining at one. Once they settle in a bit and have their decorator focus on hanging some art on the bar side of the restaurant to complement the other well appointed walls I think the restaurant will score 100 on a 1-100 scale. In my opinion this is Beauforts's #1 restaurant and I wish this new arrival the best of success.
