“Excellent tour of beautiful Beaufort - experienced guide/driver, handsome horse!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2012

We had a wonderful tour on a February Saturday. The guide, Lenny, was knowledgeable, funny and keen to make sure we enjoyed the city. There was a new horse on duty - Mr Newman, who has to be the most handsome horse I've seen. The driver kept him under great control, and the ride was comfortable and smooth.

The pride in the city they've made their home is evident, and the tour is informative, interesting, factually and historically accurate and really, really interesting. Apparently they have a deal for locals - once you've paid for your first tour, register with the booking office and every time you bring a guest, you ride for free. Nice, hey?

Highly recommended. Don't forget to tip!

“Not impressed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2011

Took the tour today 28 Dec @ 1420. Have taken another tour a few years ago from another compan, they were Better. Lenny the guide talked way too fast and far too low in volume. He would talk about landmarks AFTER we had passed them - what the hell! i would like to see what he was talking about. He gave an uneven and unorganized narrative. I and my Bride of 15 years were very disappointed.

“Perfect way to see Beaufort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2011

Of the two companies selling tickets for carriage tours, we chose Southern Rose and I am so glad we did! Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the town's past and more present history. Topics included civil war stories, info on architecture, ghost sightings, and more recent history like where movies were filmed in town and which houses celebrities stayed in while filming there. The driver was so nice and professional, unlike the driver of the other company's carriage. I had an unpleasant conversation with her in the parking lot and was glad I did not get stuck on her tour. Go with Southern Rose!!

“Comfortable buggy, but too scripted.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2011

Beaufort is such a gorgeous town. I'm sure many of the houses have interesting history, but we felt like our tour guide just gave us the basics that came out of a tourist brochure. She could not answer any of our questions about the town, the houses, nor the time frame. The whole pitch was scripted and poorly delivered. She was young, maybe she just needs more experience. We took the blue buggy tour.

The buggy seats were padded nicely. We were comfortable and happy to be there looking around, but it would have been far more fun if we learned something. She mentioned the town was used as a civil war hospital - expand on that! Now that's history and we want to learn about it!
