“Nice Stay for Exploring Beaufort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2014

Location is fantastic for exploring the antebellum homes of Beaufort. All the shops & restaurants of Beaufort are one block away. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Internet worked well. Staff was friendly and pleasant. Breakfast was excellent with omelets, french toast and fresh fruit. Parking was easy in their private lot. The gardens by the inn were lovely and well maintained. Overall, a nice stay and we would return to this hotel the next time we visit Beaufort.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely but choose the historic rooms if you want to stay in the old Smith Wallace hous...

My wife and I recently stayed at the Beaufort Inn. It was without a doubt the finest B and B I have ever stayed in. Room was very spacious, nicely decorated, very clean and well maintained. Ask for room #3---you won't be disappointed. The inn is ideally located, one short block from the main shopping area, and plenty of off street parking. Don't miss having dinner in their Bistro dining room. The finest meal I have had in many years along with complimentary wine throughout the meal. The morning complimentary breakfast is also FIRST CLASS. Whether you're in Beaufort for business or pleasure, this is a must place to stay. An EXCELLENT value.

Room Tip: Ask for room #3---Second floor and convenient to the elevator .

This is a charming, quirky B&B in the historic district of Beaufort. It had its character. We arrived early (about 1:30PM) and met a nice young lady at the desk who explained that check in was at 3PM, we knew that and said we just wanted to make sure they were expecting us and would return later. She offered to call us on our cell phone when they were ready, we walked around town for a bit and she called us at about 2:15 to say we could check in. When we arrived, another woman was at the desk and she rather sternly informed us that check in was at 3PM. We explained that the hotel had just called us and invited us to check in now, then she seemed perplexed, fussed with the computer for a bit, and finally showed us to our room in the “garden cottage.”

The room was pretty and comfortable. It was also nice and quiet and we got a good night’s sleep. In the morning we went into the main inn for the advertised breakfast at about 7:45. There was no one in the breakfast room, we asked the woman at the desk about it, she said she’d send the chef. Nothing happened. After about another 10 minutes we asked again. It took a while to finally find the chef who made the to-order omlets but when we did he was friendly and breakfast was very good. This seemed sloppy to us.

The other real issue we had was with the shower. Its advertised as a large walk-in rainwater shower. It had one of those giant showerheads with no pressure that sort of dribbles on your head and some jets on the wall that also seemed weak. There must be very long pipes from the water heater because it took about 5 minutes of running the water before it slowly started to warm. The many controls are completely unmarked so we didn’t know if we were doing the right thing to get hot water. When we finally did get it warm enough, the dribbling showerhead made for a less than inspiring shower!

So, we did have some nits to pick but we enjoyed the hotel and the area very much. A little more attention to detail would make it great.

Room Tip: If you're in the garden cottage, check the shower and possible have the staff check it with you...

Thank you very much for your review and comments about The Beaufort Inn. While I was glad you enjoyed your room and stay, it did not appear our customer service at the desk or in the breakfast was as fine tuned as we strive for and I apologize for that. We are always striving to provide great service at The Beaufort Inn and your comments will help us get better. We will also check out your comments about the water pressure. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I stayed just one night at the Inn, but it was marvelous. Our room was quaint and historical feeling. The breakfast ( which is included) was fabulous with made to Oder omelette a. The chef even came out to make sure we were satisfied. Not a grit eater normally, I thoroughly enjoy the cheesy grits.

We were looking for a pet friendly place to stay, not far off Interstate 95 on a long drive down to Florida. The Beaufort Inn in Beaufort, S.C., was the perfect place. We had our own cottage, which was incredibly luxurious. Staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast the next morning was tremendous, and the inn itself was gorgeous. I would LOVE to go back.

Thank you for noting in your kind review that The Beaufort Inn welcomes pets! Your accommodation was likely one of our guest favorites, The Chisholm Cottage, a lovingly restored Luxury King room with traditional ambiance and modern amenities. The Southern style chef prepared breakfast you enjoyed is also a guest favorite. Now that you know where we are, I do hope you will make plans to visit again!

This a lovely property right in the middle of Beaufort's historic district, within easy walking distance of fine shops and restaurants. There are several buildings separated by courtyards and we were in one the Port Republic cottages, facing the street of that name. It was very spacious and comfortable - a living room with a couch and two chairs, a large bath and a large bedroom (which could use one more chair).
The breakfasts were delightful - a buffet which included specially prepared dishes such as cream cheese/fruit bread pudding, fresh fruit, sweet buns, and bacon. They will also prepare eggs as you like them, including omelets.
The only reasons I give them four instead of five stars are that the staff, while very friendly and helpful, are sometimes not available to speak with because they are off helping another guest and there is only one person at the front desk. Also, our cottage was somewhat noisy due to large trucks rumbling down the narrow street, a plow grading a parking lot across the street and the very thin walls between the two units in the cottage building. I would advise staying in one of their other room selections, such as the garden cottages which are back off the street or maybe a suite in the main house, though I do not know if their walls are any more insulated.

Room Tip: For a quieter location, try the garden cottages or the other rooms near that back courtyard

Thank you for the review of your experience at The Beaufort Inn. Our central location, in the heart of the historic district, is often a welcome surprise to guests. The convenience to shops, restaurants, art galleries and the award winning Waterfront Park is a real plus! Beaufort is a growing and often bustling community. Sometimes this progress breaks the quiet solitude that is the enjoyment of staying at The Beaufort Inn. We work hard to eliminate as much imposition on our guests as is possible and appreciate that you mentioned the Garden Cottages and inside courtyards as alternatives to the streetscape location of the Port Republic Cottages. A hallmark of our service is that we accompany every guest to their room. We don't want any guest to wait unnecessarily and are looking at our staffing model ensure that guests have a favorable check in experience. I do hope you will visit us again!
