Description: Maria's Seaside Cafe has finally re-opened! Our newly designed, casually elegant cafe is more intimate than pre Hurricane Sandy with dining and horse shoe bar indoors plus al-fresco dining on our covered terrace or brick patio. We are very fortunate to have Chef Rafael Rosas returns to Maria's to ensure you'll experience the outstanding food with service and friendliness you remember. We look forward to serving you, John for The Bellone Family

Maria's has a great atmosphere and the calamari is amazing. I have eaten at Maria's at least 10 times in the years they have been open, and each experience has been above average. The bar staff is great and the service is fine as well. Ignore that other review. The only complaint I have is that salads are overpriced (should come with the entree) and there should be entree sized salads to choose from. But the entrees are amazing.

I dined at Maria's last Saturday night with two friends and have NEVER been treated so rudely.

The waitstaff first seated us in a crowded and overheated deck area at a table that was surrounded by families with small children. This would not be a problem per se, but we noticed that there were plenty of open tables inside. We requested to be moved, and were moved to another outdoor table at the far end of the restaurant, next to the employee exit/entrance door and employee condiment/work table. (our waitress jokingly referred to this as "the best seat in the house")

We ordered our food, and when delivered, two of the three entrees were not hot. We sent them back to be heated. One of the plates came back heated, yet the raviolis were very undercooked (al dente does not mean crunchy).

After ordering and receiving dessert (at this point we had spent approx $50 per person), we never saw our waitress again. We asked another waitress to find our waitress to get our check; she reacted as if we'd asked to borrow money from her and stormed away. Our waitress never returned and we ended up paying at the bar (the bartender was actually friendly).

Upon exiting, we saw the manager at the front of the restaurant and began to explain what had occured. He was extremely defensive and rude (clearly the customer is NEVER right at Maria's). When we asked why we were seated in two very undesirable locations as well as having our waitress disappear, he said the restaurant was full inside and there were no other tables. We were there from approximately 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm and when we arrived and left, the indoor dining room was 1/3 full.

The waitress (whom we'd asked to locate our waitress) joined in (unasked) in the conversation and began pointing her finger at us and saying "she's the one with the attitude". At this point the conversation deteriorated on both sides and we left the restaurant. One of our party returned to the restaurant to smooth out the situation; she was greated by the manager, who yelled at her (in front of other patrons) to get the xxxx (swear word) out of his restaurant.

My thoughts on this are that at Maria's, you'd best visit only if you have a male in the party. We, three females on a weekend vacation, were made to feel very unwelcome from the minute we stepped into the restaurant by all Maria employees (hostess, wait staff, manager); they made it clear we were not welcome.

I advise anyone who is looking for an enjoyable meal, look elsewhere. Beyond the astonishingly offensive service, the food is not worthy of the price. My recommendation: avoid Westerly entirely and visit another beach town.

As the new manager of Maria's Seaside Cafe since January 2007, I would like to invite you to Maria's. I cannot speak to any of ythe previous reviews as I was not managing Maria's at the time, however, feedback from our 2007 guests was very positive. On behalf of The Bellone Family and staff at Maria's Seaside Cafe, we wish you a happy new year and hope to serve you in 2008.
