The room was wonderful and offered an exceptional view. Fantastic bathtub! Grounds are quiet and nicely maintained. The food was very good and with only one exception, the staff was superb. The exception - the dining room manager during one afternoon was incredibly rude in response to my request that the kitchen permit me to order one entre for the dinner dining room that it offers only to non-formal diners. My family was coming for an anniversary dinner and one member asked for fish and chips. I didn't think was such an unreasonable request but he did and he spoke to me in such a way way that I considered leaving.

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry for the negative experience you had in our restaurant. I will be sure to follow up with our restaurant managers to ensure they handle situations like this in a more professional and considerate way in the future. I am pleased that you enjoyed the room and the spectacular view.

This is a beautifully restored property on the water in Rhode Island. It is a top notch operation from check in to check out. As you arrive, the doorman greets you and asks you your name and brings you to reception and introduces you. As you register, your bags are wisked to your room. You are offered a glass of champagne by the polished and uniformed reception staff and then given a tour of the Inn and taken to your room. Ours was a unique, sunny room on the third floor. Since this is a gratuity free Inn, no need to tip the door man, housekeeping, etc.. it is covered by the $26. resort fee. I don't care for resort fees, but at least here it has that upside. Our room was spotless, water pressure was excellent, towels were fluffy, wifi was good. They have a 24 hour guest pantry offering hot and cold beverages and snacks. Mugs are on a warming shelf - just an example of the attention given to detail here. There are various common areas to relax in and enjoy. The fitness room is in a detached building, just a short walk outside, but you do need to go outside. It is rather small and there are no TV monitors, but the exercise machines do face the water and pool area, so at least you have something to look at. By the way, there are no TV's in the room, but one can be requested. Breakfast is included and is delicious with some very interesting choices, excellent service, nice presentation and a view of the water. In additon to the cooked entree, you can help yourself from a buffet of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals and pastries.
They offer various activities; bicycles with helmets are at the ready outside and they have an on site naturalist who conducts tours and gives talks. It is right on the water and the beach is just a short and pleasant walk away. This is really a wonderfully restored property, modern, yet it retains the old fashioned feel of a refined ocean retreat. It abounds in history which can be relived through many books and pictures throughout the Inn. A great getaway.

As our 35th anniversary approached, my wife and I decided to try the newly renovated Weekapaug Inn. Having spent so many wonderful weekends there over the years prior to its closing five years ago, we were more than a bit ambivalent about seeing her renovated and under new ownership and worried that the inn might have lost its prior graciousness. Not to worry.
We were greeted by name and wished a Happy Anniversary by everyone from the young man who parked our car and brought our luggage to the room to the front desk attendant who greeted us with glasses of chilled sparkling wine, and the bar and dining room staff. Our lovely room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the lake which provided us with a nice view yesterday and a spectacular sunrise this morning.
Because we didn't want to be unfaithful to the old inn and the Buffum family which owned and ran the inn over four generations, I think we were secretly looking for something to criticize...some little off note so that we could say "Aha, this wouldn't have happened at the old inn." But we have been totally won over. While the building has undergone more of a transformation than just a renovation, the spirit of the Buffums lives on.
The new owners appear to have worked from the original skin inward with the utmost taste and have created a truly modern and sophisticated inn which manages to maintain a good deal of its original charm while having all the modern amenities. In fact, some of the furniture appears to be the original furniture which has been refinished and reupholstered.
From the heated towel rack in the fabulous bathroom (it's worth going just for the shower) to the genuine warmth of the staff to the extraordinary care and taste of all the furnishings, finishes, fabrics and physical design changes, this was a totally relaxing and pampering experience and, frankly, could not have been better.
There is a daily resort fee added so, other than in the restaurant, not only does one not have to tip, the staff politely refuses tips if you try to do so, as we did. And speaking of the restaurant (and I'll do a separate review on that), our dining experience at both dinner and breakfast was not only excellent, it was memorable.
Thank you to all involved and we hope to see you again soon.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your anniversary with us so much! It has been our goal and mission since before the renovations were complete that we stay true to the Buffum’s legacy of graciousness, friendliness and a welcoming attitude. Just returned from our birthday weekend at the Weekapaug Inn in Westerly,R.I. Our last birthday was at the Ocean House which is there sister hotel which was also fantastic. My wife and I were greeted by a wonderful young lady whose name is Antonia Korosec, her title is Innkeeper. We once again were treated like family with a welcome glass of champagne and an escort to our suite which was just perfect overlooking the pond and ocean view of Block Island. General Manager Daniel Hostettler continues to build a team of staff members that are professional and friendly to all. Our breakfast was nothing short of spectacular with pond views as we ate. We would like to again thank everyone at the inn for another special birthday! Leonard and Christine Saponare

My husband and I took our son and his girlfriend to the Weekapaug Inn to celebrate our 30th anniversary. It was a completely wonderful weekend from start to finish. We were welcomed with champagne, greeted by name. My husband and I were upgraded to a spectacular room on the 4th floor with a view of the cove and the ocean. It had a large shower and a claw-footed tub that was on a raised platform so you could still enjoy the view from the tub. The Inn is very careful to preserve its long history, with wonderful photographs on the walls - An inn tour filled in even more details. We were drawn to the Inn because it had a naturalist on staff. Each room comes equipped with binoculars and a bird book. We took great advantage of that feature. Mark, the naturalist led us on a fascinating nature walk along the beach, spotting loons and mergansers and getting a first-hand view of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. The inn was a great escape and a wonderful way to have some real family time. The staff could not have been more attentive. The only comment I would have is that the kitchen is still a bit slow - but that did not diminish our very special anniversary dinner. Its a very special place.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 4th floor have a view of both the cove and the ocean.

We spent a night at the introductory rate since the Inn was still in opening "shakedown" mode. Our room was a bit small with a view of the parking lot. Dinner was pleasant with tasty local lobster. Breakfast was also very pleasant (the lobster hash was delicious) but only one waiter made for slow service. The view from the dining room is fantastic, with ducks paddling in the cove. On checkout I had to argue that we were entitled to the rate they had confirmed to us and not the higher "rack" rate.

Like the Ocean House in nearby Watch Hill, the owners have taken old run down facilities, remodeled and upgraded them to upscale locations with very upscale prices.

Hopefully once the "shakedown" period is over the service level will improve.

Thank you for trying us out and for sharing your experience. With any new property there is a period of adjustment or “shakedown” as you call it, where staff and management are learning the building, when busy times will be, understanding computer systems, etc. I am certain you will find a well oiled machine when you next return to the Weekapaug Inn. As a matter of fact, the Inn has just been accepted into the Relais & Chateaux collection, an association of the world’s finest hoteliers, chefs and restaurants that has set the standard for excellence in hospitality.
