“Langworthy So-So”
Reviewed June 2, 2011

Based on a HOLIDAY weekend, so-so overall. Hosts were scarely around. Tending to the winery maybe? No warm-and-fuzzy feeling B&Bs can have we have seen. Many rooms, our spacious one was facing a road very vehicle-trafficked with noisy motorcycles, service trucks. Located on a corner property. Traffic-lighted intersection. No trees or natural barriers around the location to buffer when it's like that. Amenities were okay. The window AC unit was furthest from it's proper 3 prong outlet to operate. Needing a 3 prong ext cord, no host easily around even with the late hour to ask for help. Opening the window to cool off w/o AC was letting in the LOUD street noise. Not far from the ocean beach.
A winery on the grounds was different. A simple breakfast prepped by the one host was fine. Be aware of location, ask how to get in touch with host for help after bedtime hours!

From the pictures on the website we expected a traditional Bed & Breakfast affording charm, peace and New England hospitality. Boy can pictures be deceiving! To begin with the facility is located on the corner [less than 50 feet] from a busy intersection of the main road to Mesquamacut Beach, fully equipped with speeding cars, loud motorcycles and periodic sirens of emergency vehicles. Night time traffic is particularly annoying when sleep becomes an issue. We would suggest you ask for a room as far from this front corner intersection with its horns and revving motorcycles as possible. Further, that touted lovely ancient maple we hoped to see. Gone. We’re sure the inn was lovely after it was remodeled, but currently could use some TLC. The owners efforts seem primarily directed at their winery. With the exception of the brief breakfast appearance, neither owner can be found at the inn. Their winery business seems to flourish, but the inn has been forgotten. Oh yes, please check which floor your room rests upon. Not a deal if you’re in good physical condition, but if climbing sixteen steps every floor would be an issue [yes very high ceilings] choose a different inn. Yep, no elevator, no handicap accessibility [not even handicap bar to help with the very deep whirlpool bathtub], and no website mention. One final point, the bed. It’s not good! We carry a three inch memory foam mattress pad [for the “just in case” beds]. Even with the pad, the ‘old mattress’ just ‘ain’t what it used to be’. The owners need to choose: Great Bed & Breakfast or Great Winery. Doesn’t seem like they can do both. The write up speaks of “many porches” to choose from to sit and read up. Well there are two; the front porch closest to road and noise or the side porch which is slightly less noisy, but the walls of that alcove are covered with spider webs and grime from not ever being power washed. It wasn’t very inviting. Also of note is that the air conditioning is only available on the top 3rd floor, which did afford some slight muffling of the intersection noise. WiFi strength was poor on 3rd floor. I guess some folks are just so thankful to get away from the ‘big city’ that anything looks ‘just wonderful, but we’ll investigate other B&Bs in the area for our next visit.

Very clean and comfortable. The winnepaug sweet was the nicest room in the house. Can't wait to try the wine that we bought. We were not there long enough to do a tasting.

During a recent trip to the east coast I stayed at this B&B for about a week. The rooms were very nice and the ammenities were spot on. They recently lost the oak tree out front which is a shame but it happens. It's relatively close to the beach which turned out to be a good run/walk in the early morning.
My room was next to a semi busy road by R.I standards but it did not bother me one bit. I guess it could be considered noisy by some but it really wasn't that bad. The breakfast each morning was delicious and well prepared. I will definetly look this place up again when I'm in the east.

We've stayed at several vineyards with a B&B on their property, in the past, and every one of them has been a fantastic experience, so when we saw this on-line, it sounded like a wonderful option to complete our day on the Connecticut Wine Trail. We were so wrong. We arrived just before 5:00 and walked into the tasting room and were told by the owner that we were too late for try any wines. When I told him that we were staying at the property, he told us to BUY a bottle. Whenever we've stayed at other wineries, the owners would insist we try their wines. Then the wife showed us around the B&B which was in great need of a facelift. We even debated on whether or not to stay. We did stay, but certainly no one even offered to help carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. We never did get to try the wines since we had to be on the road before noon which is when the tasting room opened; that's when the owner told us to come back. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience, although a learning one. We wouldn't send our worst enemy there.......well, maybe.

We visited the Langworthy on the way to beautiful Watch Hill but found that it is in a wonderful location as well, within 3 blocks of a very pretty Rhode Island beach. The Inn itself is pristine and pleasant, in a beautifully maintained historic home. Breakfast was excellent, with coffee brought upstairs near the room nice early-- a thoughtful touch. We also enjoyed a very pleasant wine tasting on the grounds of the Inn.

This inn is in a beautiful historic home in westerly. We rode out bikes to the beach. (5 min away) Everything was fine, except the road noise was a bit loud at night. So if you are looking for peace & quiet unless you close your windows and crank the AC you may be disappointed. All in all a great value.
