Chef Alfie is a culinary artist! San Vivaldo Trattoria is the best Italian restaurant this side of Rome. Yet, it's not for everyone and that's why some reviewers give it one start, while others (like me) give it five. There is no menu, and no need for one. Alfie asks you what you like, mulls it over, and prepares an individual and wonderful meal for you. If you're standard for Italian food is a mass market chain restaurant, and you insist on things like menus and predictability, stay away. However, if you're looking for an adventure in eating, and some of the best food you've ever eaten, this is the place to try.

Great authentic Italian Food,no grtaed cheese or Meatballs, and please, don't ask for any.Chef/cook and bottlewasher is the same guy as the place is only six or so tables. No hurried meals here, expect to be there a few hours.ALWAYS ask for the Bananas Foster,he'll roll his eyes and complain, but he'll make it,and its definetly worth it.

Appetizers were good.
Pasta dish (salty and meat was dry and overcooked)
Dessert (store bought and just disgusting). Lemon cake was from the local stop&shop, apple pie was old and you could taste it, cannoli were just bad (it was not ricotta filling. Whatever it was, it was sour and had rice, i think, inside).
Expensive considering that there is no menu to choose from, quality is not good, and we were there for 3 hours!!!
I don't know if the chef thinks that Americans don't understand good food but I am Italian from Italy and his food is a disgrace to Italy! How dare he!
12 hours after eating his food, I had strong pain in my stomach. Some were very bad. I will never go again and I strongly suggest you don't go either. Go to Masseria in East Greenwich for some outstanding Italian food.

Was excited to try this restaurant as it has a unique concept. The chef asks if you have any allergies then asks what you would like to eat. I said,"'veal" my husband and a friend asked for whatever the chef recommended and another friend asked for a pasta dish. The appetizers were the same for every table..fair at best...my veal was so salty and overdone,I could barely eat it.The other three all got the same pasta dish and the protein was overdone and unrecognizable..turned out to be pork. The chef is known for his brusque and curt personality, which is part of the deal..he is obnoxious at best..but there's no excuse for such terrible food..gave our honest opinion and he brought out another entree for me..still salty, and the veal still overcooked, but less than the first. Dessert was just as bad..forget the talked about cherries flambe or crepes suzette..it was lemon cake from the local Stop and Shop..and the cannolli was filled with a thin, sour, liquid which was so awful. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY!!!!

All the reviews are spot on. The food was good, the owner is gruff, no menu. But the place needs a good cleaning. I really objected to the fly strip in the dining room.
