“Pricey but well worth the expense”
Reviewed July 25, 2010

From the time my husband and I arrived here, we felt pampered. All of the staff (with the exception of the hostess at Season's and the woman at the registration desk) treated us very warmly and made us feel very welcome. The no tipping policy (in exchange for the $24 daily resort fee) was a breath of fresh air as we enjoyed not having to dig through our bags every time someone was helpful to us. While the rooms are not cheap, the hotel throws in many extras that would not be included at cheaper hotels and that increases the value of your stay considerably. Our room was spacious and luxurious, and I got the best night's sleep I've ever gotten in a hotel room thanks to their super comfy beds.

The private beach was a gorgeous and serene place to relax and we spent as much time there as possible. Our evening boat ride on the Gansett was a fun and relaxed experience, too and we highly recommend it. Service at the Club Room was slow, but it was a busy Saturday night and they are still working the kinks out of their systems. The service and food were good enough to make this tolerable.

While this was definitely not a cheap weekend, the money was well worth it as this was one of the best trips we have ever taken. We were only there for two days but we felt as relaxed as if we had been away for a whole week.

clearly, they think they are in newport, if not beyond. food was average and overpriced. and the staff, dont even get me started. beyond rude. they treat you like they are doing YOU the favor by letting you into their place. overpriced, arrogant and the model of snobbery. complete rubbish. unless the state bails them out, this place will be closed within 2 years.

We have a house in Watch Hill, so have not stayed at the hotel. However, 7 of us did have dinner there. Our reservation was for 8:15 on a Wed. night. Although there were only a few other parties in Seasons they made us wait about half an hour to be seated. Our waiter was very nice, but seemed to have too many tables, since he disappeared for long periods of time. Since ordering drinks for the children and a bottle of wine took so long, we decided to skip salads and go straight to the entrees. A member of the staff was constantly offering us more bread and filling up our water glasses. They must hope you fill up on bread since the entree sizes are ridiculously small. When the entrees finally arrived after at least an hour's wait, my 82 year old mother-in-law (who has been spending summers in Watch Hill since 1951) joked that she needed a microscope! I'm a petite woman, but need more food than this for dinner. Although it tasted delicious, my steak entree only included three quarter sized slices of beef, two fingerling potatoes, two grape tomatoes, and one green bean. All for $29! The striped bass entrees three in our party ordered were even smaller. We finally walked home at 10:30.

We all agreed that we missed the old Ocean House. We used to love having drinks and appetizers on the porch and dinner in the restaurant of the original Ocean House. After this experience, we won't be back to the new version.

If you don't mind rude service from most of the staff (even the sales clerk at the Ocean House Home store in town wouldn't say thank you after we made our purchases), tiny portions, long waits, and wasting your money this is the place for you. My recommendation is to stay there, but eat breakfast at either the Cooked Goose in Avondale (5 min. drive), or St. Claire's (5 min. walk), and have dinner at The Water Street Cafe in Stonington Borough, CT (20 min. drive). Delicious food, ample portions, friendly staff, and worth the money.

Dear Guest,
We regret to hear that your experience was unsatisfactory. We are constantly working to improve the level of service that we offer throughout all our outlets, including in our dining room. Seasons food is designed to create a culinary experience for guests through small portions which allow guests to comfortably taste several dishes. The staff we hire are professional and respectful individuals, and we apologize if some of our staff failed to act like so. We are still facing and learning from the challenges of opening a resort with an entire new team. Thank you for your feedback.
Kind Regards,
Daniel Hostettler, Managing Director

A re-built unique 1800's Ocean front Inn with a modern, amenity-rich interior, led to an amazing anniversary stay... from check-in, through a restful and well appointed room, through the spa treaments and gracious meals. All delivered flawlessly. We'll be back!

The hotel and the grounds are beautiful and the rooms are well done. Real credit needs to go to the renovation project.

You will pay top prices to stay at the hotel and eat at the restaurants and the service is not up to par and needs attention. You are continually left with the impression that things could be managed better. For instance, on a number of occasions we requested something from the staff and were told that they would get back to us and never did. At breakfast, my wife ordered an omelette which took over 45 minutes to arrive and when it did arrive the order was wrong (she did not want cheese). She sent it back and it arrived again with the wrong ingredients. The manager was apologetic - but this should not happen.

To justify the prices and do justice to the renovation project, the service needs work.

As many have said, the Ocean House could not be more spectacular. As we turned onto Bluff Ave, we let out a collective "WOW". Absolutely gorgeous! They could not have done a better job with the restoration.
Unfortunately, the service hasn't caught up to the structure.
On arrival, the young girl working the valet was exceptional. We were poised for a great getaway. Sadly, this was the highpoint of our stay.
We arrived around lunchtime and asked to check in early. We were put on a "waitlist" for the room to be cleaned and told that we'd receive a call when it became available. The call never came. We returned no fewer than 3 times only to be turned away again and again. It wasn't until a local, who had struck up a conversation outside, became so embarrassed that we were having a bad RI experience, that we were finally taken to our room at 530!! Our entire first day of vacation was gone!
On entry to the room, the guest services rep quickly scooped up the used tissue that was left on the floor. She asked us our preference of morning paper, which was delivered only one of the two days of our stay. She also promised to follow up with us regarding dining reservations and sailing options. We never heard from her again.
So it continued, spotty service at best every place we turned.
And then came the power outtages. We understand these were not the hotel's fault but staff were obviously not given a clear and concise message to deliver to guests. One staffer even told us we'd be powerless for 48 hours! The complimentary bbq was very well done and delicious but the need for us to repeatedly ask where and when we could head to it became tedious. We hadn't eaten since our breakfast (which was a entirely different ordeal)!
It was obvious that most staff wanted to do the right thing but they were either undertrained, underinformed or bound to a very limited script.
I'd like to give the Ocean House a year or two to get things worked out and give them another try. The ten year restoration deserves a second chance.

Dear Guest,
Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience at the Ocean House. It is unacceptable that there was no communication in regards to the room, and dinner. Since our normal check-in is at 3:00 P.M., early check-in is dependent on when the previous guest checks-out and when we the room is ready for the next guest. We are working on improving the speed at which we turn around rooms and the level of our housekeeping services. We also apologize for our guest service representative's failure to follow up with you. The power outage did come as a surprise to the team, and affected the resort's daily momentum. We were working with the power company to provide our guests with accurate information, and received constantly changing information, which is why the message may have been confused.  Please be assured that from the experience we have learned how to deal with the situation if it were to occur in the future.
Kind Regards,
Daniel Hostettler, Managing Director
