“Outstanding local theater”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

A small local theater that has become a local institution. With strong local support the theater has been able to install air conditioning, comfortable seats and a stage that now accommodates great scenery. The productions are outstanding and the 2012/13 season promises to be terrific.

“Cute local theater with gadgets”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

Gadgets? Yup, that's what I struck me when I attended my first show there recently. It's a typical local small community theater But they had this rotating stage which was kind of cool and allowed for multiple sets. I thought it to be a versatile set-up. My local theater has a very small stage and the performers are barely off stage when in the wings and scenery changes are minimal due to lack of space. Perhaps that's why the rotating stage was so notable to me. Only cringed a few times when performers had one foot on the solid stage and the other on the rotating one as it rotated -- they were pretty nimble footed and managed to stay on their feet. I guess they must get used to it.

I saw Divine Sister (?) while on vacation in Newport and enjoyed it. Cast was talented and show funny.

Should mentiion that while it is indeed on a 2nd floor - they do have a freight style lift for those who need it - otherwise expect about 15 stairs in as well as those up to seats. They can accommodate seating via a call-ahead. All that said because we had a person with us who has some mobility issues.

“Small theater at it's best”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

One of the best things to do in the East Bay. Wonder play selection and acting. Very intimate. Reasonable price. You will NOT be disappointed.

“Fabulous Theater & Great Dining”
Reviewed July 31, 2007

Just had dinner and saw a play at the 2nd Story Theater. Absolutely terrific. The play was better than most I've seen at Trinity Rep. And Downstairs is really one of the best restaurants in RI. Very reasonable prices. What a gem. Can't recommend this place highly enough!
