The Matunuck Oyster Bar is a fabulous restaurant on several levels. First, the food is outstanding if you like freshfreshfresh seafood. Second, the restaurant is located on the water in South Kingstown, RI and has an outdoor deck in good weather for drinking and dining. Indoors is small and the wait for a table is very long in spring, summer and fall. Go early, if possible, If not, relax on the deck, have a glass of wine, and enjoy the view and appetizers from the bar.

We spent our summer date nights sneaking away to this place not only for the amazing food but also for the incredible views. The oysters are straight off the boat fresh. The salads are creative and scrumptious. We've never had a bad meal. Can't wait to spend another summer night there.

My wife & I ate here in March of 2012 and it was the best meal I ate of last year. The view was outstanding. The food was fresh and amazing. And the service was stellar. If I'm ever back in that part of the world again, I'll go back. It is fresh, fresh & tasty food for seafood lovers.

We arrived at lunch-time on Saturday to take advantage of the Restaurant Week deal to find a packed house. We stood around the oyster bar for a short time while waiting for a table, enjoying a dozen Watch Hill oysters and the banter of the shuckers. Once seated at a sunny table overlooking Potter's Pond, we were nearly over-whelmed with the food served for the $14.95 prix fixe. A bowl of creamy chowder loaded with clams and potatoes preceded a half-dozen Matunuck oysters on the half-shell. Finally, our "sandwiches" came -- oyster po' boys or lobster rolls with large servings of cole slaw and french fries. The food was good, the service was really friendly and efficient, and the price was definitely right. What's not to love?

Arrived around 1:30 on a Wednesday afternoon in January and the parking lot was pretty full -- almost every car from Rhode Island. The managment seemed to be taking advantage of unseasonably warm weather to do some maintenance/upkeep around the outside dining/deck area, didn't affect the dining rooms. Friendly welcome & we watched the oystermen working at the pier during our very short wait for a table. Cold Narragansett on tap, along with several other choices and a good wine list. BE WARNED: menu portions were substantial, don't know if that's normal but recommend you watch the plates coming from the kitchen before ordering because you may be unprepared for how much food they'll serve you. Unfortunately we were more concerned with what was happening outside the windows & ended up with an over-abundance on the table! Stews/soups/chowders not sold by cup & their bowls are very large; NE chowder was thick, chunky with veg, good but not clam-y enough. Stuffies (baked stuffed clams) were sold by the piece and you probably don't need to order more than one per person or one to share between two of you -- outside of stuffing crisped from the oven with the inside soft, moist & nicely flavored by the chourico & peppers & good bites of clam. Raw bar gloriously perfect (oysters & littlenecks & cherrystones). Cod & chips -- great batter, one large piece of perfectly fried fish, more potatoes on one plate than we've ever seen anywhere, overflowing bowl of simply-dressed coleslaw. Oyster dinner -- 18 (or maybe more?) fried whole large oysters, again perfectly cooked and presented with the same embarassingly-large portion of chips & slaw, remoulade wasn't the best. Attentive service throughout. The only thing that's prevented a higher rating from us was the amount of food returned on cleared plates throughout the dining room. Definitely not because the sefood wasn't great but because they gave you too much.
