We eat at the Picnic Basket about twice a month in the summer and have been going for over twenty years. If you go at noon on a hot summer day, you will have a long wait while your sandwiches are made but there is little wait to order. Just go to the ORDER HERE sign instead of waiting in the cashier line like many of the tourists do.
We love their deli sandwiches like the Manny or the Cajun Cowabonga. The veggie wraps made with humus or cheese really fill you up. Everything is always fresh.
If you are the type of person who needs a lot of customization of your order, do not go when it is packed. It is too noisy and too busy for them to listen about which side of the bun you want buttered.
There is some seating outside with a view of the ocean. The high table inside also can see the sea. Usually there are trivia cards on the tables you can use to pass the time.
If it is really crowded tell the person at the register you are going over to Warm Winds Surf Shop next door and they will hold your order till you get back. On a really busy beach day, call in your order early from the beach and it will be there when you walk over.
Oh and if you are a guy, on a hot day it is a great place to girl watch.
