Having lived in Rhode Island my entire life, I cannot remember a summer that we did not go to Champlin's. It is a fantastic casual dining experience - the perfect beginning (or end) to a day at the beach. It is fun to sit outside by the water, or out on the deck, to see the boats coming and going. It is a family tradition for many families in Rhode Island, and is located close to the Block Island Ferry docks. We usually get lobster dinners, but I can also say that the fish and chips, calamari, clam cakes, and clam chowder all are delicious! Prices are very reasonable, and the service is quick.

If you are visiting Rhode Island in the summer, this is a must-do!

If you are looking for a "real" New England experience try Champlin's. Can get too busy in the summer season, but the location and freshness of food can't be beat. Sit & watch the fishing boats come & go. Check out the fish market for the freshest seafood around

This is a favorite sport for my lady and I especially at sunset. Get a seat on the deck over looking the bay. and enjoy an excellent meal. It's a little crowded and a little noisy, but it's just other people enjoying a great time. order your meal at the walk up window pick up your drink on your way to your table and just sit, relax and enjoy.

Our stop along the way to the Cape to have an introductions to the great seafood to come.

It was a warm sunny day and a good place to stop for lunch and see the fishing boats and the harbor. There is almost no parking to the place so it can be a bit of a scramble.

The menu is simple and has some several items that we would have liked to try. We could only try two items so we had to pass on the chowder, lobster roll and snail salad.

What we did decide on for lunch was the fried clams and the junior fish and chips.

Since the junior size fish and chips was enough for an adult dinner. The fish was crispy fried, not greasy and juicy. Two pieces to the order as well as crispy chips. The tartar sauce was tangy as the coleslaw was sweet and creamy.

The fried clams were equally well cooked. They were golden brown, and full bellied. The batter has some cornmeal to make them extra crunchy. It came with coleslaw as well and instead of fries, I went for the boiled red potatoes. The potatoes were probably cooked as part of the lobster boil. The potatoes were tender, sweet and nicely salted. A definite treat with the butter that was served.

The eating desk looks out over the harbor and makes for a delightful lunching location.
