Stopped by one evening for a seafood dinner & we were not disappointed. The freshly made bread (Cinnamon & Raisin) was to die for. The chowder that came with the dinners was tasty. We ordered the crab meat salad & sea scallops which were quite good. For desert we had the keylime pie which was again homemade & quite delicious. Overall it was a great meal.

This place was featured on D, D, and D and it looked so awesome. Well, it really wasn't.

* Milk chowder is mediocre at best. Way too thin and too many potatoes.

* Their signature clam cakes did nothing for me. I hate the awful crunchy bits on the outside. I'm not a huge clam cake person but felt compelled to try them. They are huge and very dense.

* Swordfish was a very good portion and very fresh.

* The french fries are honestly abysmal. They should be embarrassed to serve such a scant portion of frozen fries that weren't even fresh from the fryer.

* Another gripe is the strawberry shortcake featured on TV is an extra charge on the complete dinner which isn't noted on the menu. Unacceptable. But alas, they were already sold out @ 5:00 anyway.

* The star of the show is the STRAWBERRY RHUBARB PIE. Wow! Best pie I've ever had. Served with their homemade vanilla ice cream. Heaven!

* Also, I just read that their ice cream shop across the way also has a gift store. It had no sign so how would anybody know!?

We lived in Rhode Island for many years before moving away in the early 2000s. However, we come back for an extended stay in the summer and Aunt Carries has always been part of that and something we looked forward to. Two weeks ago a friend who had not been in RI for ten years and I went for lunch, sort of a "trip down memory lane" for her. The food was ok to dismal. My bay scallop roll was the ok, all of her food was the dismal. The white clam chowder was 90% potatoes, her lobster roll sparse and not terribly tasty with a stale roll to boot. It's such a shame because we both have such great memories of Aunt Carries but we won't be back. At the Matunuck Oyster Bar you get a cup or bowl of clam chowder brimming with clams, potatoes and celery, heavy on the clams. Their lobster roll is the exact same price as Aunt Carries, but it is much larger and so tasty. Aunt Carries needs to step up their game.

Lobster roll was practically inedible. Clams may or may not have been local, but were overcooked. Flounder sandwich was okay. Service was great, but realize what you are getting into before you park/go there. Iggy's line was forever when we went. Take that as your cue.

Aunt Carrie's is a local tradition specializing in seafood. In many ways this restaurant is unique even in Rhode Island. First of all, it is a sit down restaurant, not a window or a lobster in the rough place with picnic tables. It is very casual, though. Secondly, they do not serve alcohol. The servers are mostly under 21, too young to work in a restaurant that serves alcohol. The waiters are eager and knowledgeable about the menu. You can BYOB. Third, it is the only place I know locally that serves Indian pudding for dessert. Lastly, they do not take reservations. Expect to wait on Friday and Saturday nights. There may be a short wait on summer week nights. They have a four course dinner with salad, soup, entrée and dessert for one reasonable price.
The seafood is better than average but not great.
My family stopped there recently for dinner on a summer week night. The food was good and the waitress helped me find a good gluten free item on the menu. In fact her knowledge of the gluten content of each menu item was very impressive. Alas, when dinner was over, they had no Indian pudding. They gave me a coupon for ice cream at their outlet across the street. The ice cream was not as good as other vendors in town.
