We took the ferry to Block Island for the day. The trip takes 55 minutes one way. There is a faster ferry that takes 30 minutes and costs more. The ride was comfortable and relaxing. We had to pay $10 to park our car for the day. We also brought our bikes on the ferry and there was a $3 charge per bicycle. That saved us a lot of money versus renting bicycles on the island. Many people rent mopeds on the island to get around. If you are athletic, it is easy to ride the bikes on Block Island. To ride to the North Lighthouse is about 4 miles and mostly flat with slight hills. To ride to the South Lighthouse and Bluffs there is a 5 mile loop, it is hilly but worth the ride as the view was fantastic. Cute island that has authentic New England charm. There are shops and restaurants in town at the ferry dock. There is also a salt marsh/lake in the middle of the island where you can rent kayaks. There are many hotels on the island if you want to stay a few days. When you get off the ferry there is a visitor center for information and there are restroom facilities. There are also restroom facilities on the ferry boat. You have the option to sit on the upper deck for outdoor seating or on the inside for more comfortable seating not in the sun.
