“You decide if you want fast ir slow but either way is efficent.”
Reviewed October 8, 2011

A beutiful trip on a last gasp of summer weathersay, Columbus weekend. Suggest buying tickets on web in advance which I assume will give you ability to avoid lines. Ticket sales help however VERY efficient and kept long line moving quickly. Understand they are't rude when they rush you along as it is all in the spirit of the greater good.

Departing From point Judith RI you decide if you want to go fast or slow by your boat selection. A 1hr. or 1/2 hour shorter trip for a nominal convenience fee for the faster ferry. Personally I like the longer ride so this review focuses on the that version.

Consider your seat strategies. Get on early if you want to get a table that seats four or if it is an inclement day and you want to be certain you are inside. Just understand that once you board you can't get off and re-enter.

Plenty of people watching fun to pass the time. Basic beverages and bar with light snacks available  Of course a restroom is on board.

Think ahead if you need to rush off the boat upon arrival and not wait in line. Simply select a seat in the back near the stairs. If you want to relax I recommend sitting in the middle where there are plush padded seats. For the Kate Winslow & Leonardo DiCaprio adventurous types, you can sit on the bow benches and savor the approach of landfall. The crew tends to discourage the "I'm king of the world" thing.

Block Island is a delightful paradise. Great for a romantic getaway or battery recharge. Nice place, with nice people and nice atmosphere.
For me it was a great way to savor the end of summer before we are up to our eyeball in snow.

“Check in is confusing”
Reviewed October 3, 2011

We travelled between the Labor Day and Columbus Day holidays.

When we arrived to check in at Galillee, there were no signs telling us where to pull in/stage/wait. We were set for the 3pm ferry, and when we arrived about 1230, the building was closed, the parking lot was blocked, and alot of people were milling about asking each other "where do we go?) Finally, the parking lot opened up and we checked our car in and got in the lanes for loading. Then we had to wait for the windows to open at 2 to buy passenger tickets. Check in leaving Block Island was much more efficient.

Lots of dining options in town (depending on what time of day you are there), shopping is just a few shops so bring something else to occupy your time while you wait.

Be prepared to back your car onto the ferry; there is staff there to help if it's not your forte'.

Spacious, clean, efficient craft; ride over took 55 minutes. Snack bar with local newspapers, restrooms, and plentiful seating for the passage over.

“so convenient!”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

We decided last minute to head over to Block Island for the afternoon. Two senior citizens, 4 other adults, 2 dogs and one infant. We not only had plenty of room to spread out, but there was no issue with bringing dogs back and forth on the ferry. Lots of dogs were on board, and we all spread out so as not to have a dog play group.

My only "complaint" was that when we boarded with the baby stroller we were told we had to leave it with the luggage downstairs. Not sure why since hauling the baby, the diaper bags, etc would have been a pain if we didn't have a good baby:adult ratio. I did find the wheelchair lift, so I suppose the stroller might have just been a space issue - there was accessibility.

It was nice to have the snacks available, and the restrooms were clean.

“Can't wait to go back.”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Both the ferry and the island are very pet friendly. If you take the high speed ferry you need to sit outside with your dogs. The regular ferry you can sit inside. The island is beautiful. The beaches have black sand. Dogs are allowed to go on all beaches. Outside shops there are bowls of water for dogs. I went just for a day trip and can't wait to go back and stay.

“Had a great time in Block Island”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

We took the ferry from New London, CT. to Block Island for a day trip. $44 round trip per person with no car. We went with another couple in mid 30's. Ferry ride was about 1 hour and 10 mins, very smooth and clean. Bathrooms, tables and food and drink. All you need. No complaints at all on ferry ride there or back.

We got there and rented scooters. We went to 3 different places to get the best deal we could find. 3 hours for $55. More than enough time. We actually turned it back in early. Scooters were great. Zoomed around entire island hitting all the major sight-seeing places. Way to do it I think. People on bikes were sweaty, tired and not happy doing all the hills.

Turned the scooters in and ate and drank the rest of the day/night. Everywhere we went was clean, friendly and fun. Only drawback was last ferry left at 8:10pm, so we couldn't stay for night life. With hurricane Irene coming, we didn't risk missing that ferry.

When you exit the ferry, go immediately to the left. HUGE bar with inside and outside entertainment. Sorry, can't remember name. Outside bar right on the beach. Servers walk drinks right out to you on the sand.

The worst part of trip I think was the local brewery on the main road. The beer they make was just awful. Everyone in our group thought it was terrible. But thier apps were good and service was good too.

I would definately tell anyone to go to Block Island. Ferry, mopeds and everything we did was great. No real complaints. Good stuff.
