We love it here. Warm (for New England!) water, clean beach, beautiful view, rinsing showers and pay showers, and a snack bar with all kinds of treats. We brought our boogie boards for some fun in the waves. The parking cost was $28 for out of state visitors on a weekend but was worth it for hours of fun with our family of five and our extended family that joined us there. The playground on the beach and the picnic tables along the beach are fun elements and it seems very well staffed with lifeguards. We can't wait to go back!

Beach which is protected from the ocean. The waves here are very small so it is great for a family with small children. Large parking lot and not that far of a walk

We came to RI for a week vacation and this ended up being our favorite beach for the kids. Other beaches in RI were a little too rough with a quick drop off for the kids. Beause there are rock jetties on either side, the water warms up nice, too. The water temp had to be in the 70's and it was calm for the kids but enough of a slight surf to boggie board with small waves. Really nice beach facilities, too.

Went with some friends, little kids played in the small surf, the guys fished for striper, the woman bathed in the sun. It's a nice little cove with something for every one. The water is usually nice and warm. Plenty of parking and another beach close by that you can walk to from here.
Only down fall is the cove tends to hang onto debris, lots of litter bugs out there these days and it tends to wash up on the shores.

As a person who goes to the beach 12 months a year, I love Wheeler in summer and winter. I like to really swim as opposed to jumping in the surf, and love the fact that there aren't big waves there and you can walk in gradually because there's no drop-off. The water warms up earlier in the season than the less protected RI beaches, and I have been in the water as late as the end of September there. It is a nice walk to Galilee to sit on the jetty and watch the boats. As a photographer, I love the light at Wheeler and the line the jetties make on the horizon. The downside-- last summer it was very crowded. I go to Wheeler often, with family and friends or by myself.
