“This is an adult with kids beach”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

George's and Champlain's are nearby. Depending on your taste one is the state's premier chowder shack. I like both! Don't make me pick. There is a burger shack as well. Also Two restrooms ladies and men. Some paid parking, and an ice-cream shop. The beach sand is very fine and white, When you hear the word beach the picture that pops into your head is Wheeler Beach. I've been all over the world and this is as good as it gets.

“Nice shallow Beach with low surf”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We visited this beach on a day when the wind was high and waves were Really high everywhere else. As other reviewers have mentioned, this beach is great for kids since it's quite shallow due to the jetties placed along the shore. They have what appears to be a really nice restroom/changing facility. We were here in the off season.

“Excellent beach for little kids!”
Reviewed April 17, 2013

This is a beach you can take your toddlers to without worrying about strong surf or waves. There are many jetties that guarantee very gentle waves. Some of the other beaches have undertow or rip tides (although with the storms changing the beach terrains, not sure how that will be on other beaches this coming summer). There is a full snack bar, showers, bathrooms, and playground too. Nice sand as well and lots of parking.

“Nice beach for younger children”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a nice beach if your kids are young because the waves are small and the ocean current is not rough Older kids might want more waves though so Scarborough beach may be better for them. We rented a house last summe rin the area and enjoyed both beaches. The bathhouses with shower facilities at the beaches were a great help to keep the sand out of my car.

“Great for families!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

This is a great beach because it's protected by a breakwater. In fact, it's considered a 'harbor of refuge' for boaters in the event of bad weather. While the waters at Scarborough or Narragansett beach can be quite rough (you'll find a lot of surfboarders!), the waters at Wheeler at quite calm. They're also shallow for quite a ways out, which is great for kids. There's a playground, and a beach house facility with showers. This area is also known as Sand Hill Cove.
