Had finished an 8 day bus tour of New Englandand decided to take a different route homesince I was driving from Boston. Rhode Island was the only New England state we hadn't visited. Previosly had studied a small regional map in a travel magazine and decided to try the ocean drive along 1A and 1. Was woth the trip--scenery was beautiful. When we got to Judith Pointcould not go into the lighthouse but some beautiful pix were taken. Just outside of the entrance, though was a memorial park where you could sit on benches looking out over the ocean. View was breathtaking and the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks was so pleasant. On the way back up the road we stopped to take pictures of a beautiful stone structure which goes over the road--was told that it was The Narragansett Towers--looked like a medieval castle. Stopped at a little place right on the road for some homemade ice cream. Whole experience was worth the big detour on our trip home and am very glad we did it.
