“Good location.”
Reviewed September 13, 2010

We stayed at the Econo Lodge while visiting the Mansions. Good location. Clean hotel, except the tub mat, which is attached to the tub, was dirty. They should have one that can be picked up and removed and cleaned. Rooms are large, beds are comfortable. They have a waffle maker, so you can make your own waffles for breakfast. They also had cereal and bagels, coffee. No fresh fruit. The OJ was watered down and not good. Not a large area for eating breakfast. Only 3 tables. The people running the hotel were very nice and helpful. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby.

From the parking lot in front, I glanced up at the sketchy-looking guy sitting and smoking outside his balcony, and felt a little wary of this motel's clientele and the cleanliness of the place.

What a relief to find out it was nicer than I expected (coming from someone who usually stays at Residence Inn-type or better hotels).

When we walked into the lobby, there were two guys talking to one another, one crouching down next to the other by the sofa, and no one at the desk. As soon as we approached the desk, the crouching down guy stood us and welcomed us in. (A little unprofessional, I think, not to have anyone at the front desk.)

We checked into our room (on the second floor up a flight of stairs near the front desk; no elevators) and found a big studio-like room. The layout was kind of strange. Because of the shape of the room, the bathroom was such you had to get in and scooch over a little before you could close the bathroom door. It seemed like everything was at a strange angle.

Sheets and towels were clean, although when I was doing laundry at the laundromat across the street the next day, I noticed that when the employees folded mass quantities of sheets (for the hotel, probably), some of the sheets dragged on the floor. Ew. Back to the motel- all the surfaces (table tops, etc) that I noticed were clean and free of dust. View from window was of the hotel's awning that's above the lobby entrance.

Free wi-fi and cable tv. They had USA and Comedy channels, yay!

Not a bad deal for a pretty clean hotel, reasonably priced, relatively close to Newport.

Also, there's a little strip mall across the street with a big supermarket and laundromat if you need to get something quick and cheap to eat and/or need to do your laundry.

Rooms were larger than average, but pillows were flat. Service was not good, due to understaffing. Too few and poor quality items for the breakfast - no fresh fruit. Pool rather small, but clean. Should not be rated as highly, so I'm calling it average because similar deals could be found closer to town.

Great hotel! Originally, we considered staying in Newport to visit the mansions. However, those hotels were a bit our of our price range. I found this one and I'm glad I decided to go with it. It looks like it was recently renovated. The room was very clean. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly. I definitely recommend this hotel!

Room spacious, staff friendly and helpful.

Breakfast ok--would have been nice to have some fruit available. Eating area very tiny.

This gem of a motel is clean and well run, with complimentary wireless internet and breakfast. Charming reception staff and recently refurbished rooms. Good location (short drive to central Newport). All systems go!

This is a clean Econo Lodge with more than just the simple staple offerings. It is a 10 minute drive from downtown Newport, near grocery stores and coffee shops, offers a breakfast that surpassed my expectations for a free continental breakfast at an Econo Lodge (i.e. waffles and cranberry juice for breakfast), and if you get a room with a view of the backyard, it is very quiet and you can wake up to the sound of birds chirping. The rooms also have balconies. Really, for $53 a night at peak season (AAA), you cannot beat this place. Oh, and parking is free and they have an outdoor pool. Will most definitely return.
