“Avoid this place”

During my 3 week road trip I stayed in a lot of different motels and this place was by far the worst place I stayed at during the trip if not ever. It was memorial day weekend and Newport was pretty booked up an pricey. The motel calls itself Ambassador Inn and Suites these days and the pictures you find on their site look pretty nice but don't let yourself be fooled! As other have written here the rooms are smelly, dark and damp. Furniture is falling apart. Rooms are not clean. Toilet seat was loose. Towels have dirty spots which looked like dried blood. Lamp in bathroom did not have a cover and wires were hanging from it, really dangerous. The coffee making facilities and glasses were dirty and full of dirty fingerprints. Walls are paper thin so it gets very very noisy at all times. Key card didn't work when we returned to the motel after visiting Newport and the staff said "Maybe it doesn't like you. This was said in an awfully rude way. Well guess what Ambassador Inn/Econolodge. I don''t like you either.
I hope you read this review before thinking of going there and can avoid the awful experience. Plenty of other places down the road.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night!!! Good Job!!

The check in was rude, The rooms were very smelly but apart from that just dated. Its really funny that the pics can make the rooms and the hotel look nice.

There are so many hotels on the same street as the econo lodge for the same or a little different in price, I would recommend you chose a different hotel.

The breakfast was standard, There are alot of places to go for lunch or evening meal in the area.

When i do return to Middletown i will not be returning to Econo Lodge.

We booked here as we were going to a wedding in Newport. Big mistake!! Nothing matches in these rooms. The rooms smell funny, and are dirty if you check around. We had a fridge and a micro-wave. Micro-wave was unplugged when we got there. Later in the evening we plugged it in, didn't work. Exhaust fan in bathroom smelled like burning rubber when you turned it on. Faucette in bath is barely over the sink. Nothing extra in bathroom, like toliet paper, we ran out, or kleenex. Sliding door hardly worked, screen for door was missing. We were there for two nights, housekeeping never showed up. No clean towels, or glasses. Bed wasn't made, etc. Front desk employees were not helpful or friendly. Will nevr stay here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

I arrived early Monday and no rooms were available due to a sell out the night before, so came back after 4:00 and room was ready. I opened the door and got a horrible whif of a musty and mold smell. I was not able to change rooms since I needed the first floor access and wanted a room facing away from the busy street. The room appeared to be clean, towels were a bit stained and had been bleached. The shower curtain was to long for the tub and smelled, it never dried properly. The mattress had coffee stains and the sheets did not cover the entire mattress. We reported that the microwave did not work and they never replaced it and we were told to use the one in the lobby. The first night the guest next door had their TV full blast all night through the paper thin walls, woke up at 1:00 am and went to the front desk but no one on duty. Knocked on the guest door and no one answered. Pool area was clean but water was not heated and no extra towels. The housekeepers did not clean the room upon request, we found food under the AC unit when I tried to spray a discenfectant to mask the musty smell. I did not unpack my suitcase due to the must y smell in the chest drawers. This place is overdue for a renovation of all rooms and new carpet in the hallways.
Will not recommend to anyone and will notify AAA to review.

We traveled to Newport on August 12 for a wedding, stayed in Newport for 2 nights and then moved to Econo Lodge to save some money, but still be nearby. Reviews I read were not bad, price was right and it came with a Continental Breakfast.
Room had very soft, saggy beds, same for the pillows. It did have a refrigerator, which was a big plus. We got up in the morning and headed to the breakfast. When we got there, we decided to have cereal, but there was no milk. My husband went to the front desk to ask for more, in the meantime, myself and another women, restocked the coffee creamers and tried to find some napkins. The counters were dirty from pancake batter, etc., the trash was overflowing and when they brought the pitcher of milk, it was about 1/3 full. I asked the man that brought it, why he did not fill it. He stated, "that is all the milk we have". At that point, we left, checked out, and drove down the street to the diner where we had a wonderful breakfast. So travelers, beware, you get what you pay for!!

Room Tip: When a room it $99 outside of Newport, there must be something wrong with it!

The Newport area is known for high priced accomodations. It took us awhile to find a hotel online that was close to the area without completely breaking the bank. This hotel is still only minutes from Newport attractions. It has a small complimentary breakfast bar which was adequate. (Beware the juice and coffee made with highly chlorinated water-not so good.) Pool was small, but clean. The room and bathroom were clean. The decor of the hotel is tired and somewhat dated. But if you need a place to stay that is a little under $200 per night, this will do just fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room on the second floor.

Upon arriving at this hotel we had to wait for about 15 minutes for anyone to show up at the desk. There was another couple there who had been waiting there longer. when someone finally showed she explained she was in the bathroom. (didnt really need to know that....) Noticed the individual cream cheese was still out in the breakfast sitting area from that morning unrefridgerated - yuck! (Still there later that night and in the morning) we went to celebrate my grandmothers 90th birthday so the family got several rooms. My room was surprizingly nice and quite comfy. My parents came to their room to find the door open and an aromatic smell of stale smoke. The windows in their room were pushed open and it was obvious that they were trying hard to get the smell out of the room. It didnt work. It smelled really bad. On the second night my parents had to ask for a different room. Their clothes smelled funky after staying in that room. I cannot even imagine how much someone would have to smoke to damage a room that way. There was no apology or rate reduction - not even a hint of embarrassment or shame. Seems odd to me guest satisfaction is the reason they should be here. No employees or night clerk present in the lobby and it looked as thought they were attempting to renovate since there were ladders and tools strewn throughout the entrance to the rooms. No elevator just stairs. Had the staff been present and super hospitable I could have overlooked the smelly room and the obvious food borne illness brewing in the FREE continental breakfast area. But the only thing this hotel had going for it was the price and the really non smoking rooms. Clean and comforatble.

Room Tip: Smell your room when you go in and don't eat the cream cheese!!
