“Good, straightforward seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

For a town that serves so much seafood, we had a hard time finding a restaurant in Newport that simply serves whole lobster (one where we weren't going to pay $100 a piece anyway). The Atlantic Beach Club popped up on OpenTable and we decided to cross the bridge and check it out. Much about the place feels very dated, but I like a place that doesn't take itself too seriously. Our server was great. She had good suggestions and we had the chance to chat a bit with her about the area since the place was very empty (it was winter, in the middle of a snowstorm). We found exactly what we wanted - lobster by the pound with basic veggie and potato sides. Both lobsters were cooked perfectly. Lovely, friendly place.

“On the Ocean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

After enjoying the jazz in the bar on Sunday we dined oceanside in the dinning area adjacent to the bar. Where can you find whole fried clams these days ? They were terrific and plenty of 'em too. My date had the lobster newburg which was piping hot though it did have a few pieces of shell in it . It could have used a bit of sherry. The place is kind of old school with rolling barrel chairs but nice and comfortable.

“Outstanding Food On The Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

I first started coming to the Atlantic Beach Club restaurant 8 years ago when I started work in nearby Portsmouth. The food is outstanding and the service is always warm, friendly, and efficient. After taking drink orders, a basket of quality Italian bread arrives with butter and a plate of olive oil with cheese and olives. The menu is extensive with sea food, meat, and pasta dishes. My favorites are the 10 oz. filet mignon and the chicken picata. The fried seafood platter is enormous and includes sea scallops, clams, shrimp, and cod.
The best deal is the early bird specials (4:00-6:00) on Mon, Tues, and Thursday nights. Priced at $10.95 including salad or chowder with tea or coffee, there isn't a better deal in the Newport Area.Wednesday night includes anything on the menu at $14.95 which is a steal.
If you want great food at reasonable prices, this is the place for you. During warmer weather, you can take a scenic walk on the beach after dinner.

“New Years reservation lost”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Made a reservation in October for New Years Eve and called back after hurricane Sandy to make sure all was well and the New Years Eve Gala was still on. My party shows up in Tux's and formal wear to be told there is no reservation.
The incompetence was terrible. After the hour plus wait we were squeezed in between 2 other tables and that was after complaining to the general manager. At least we were given a round of drinks which must have been a miracle since the bartender asked loudly "are you sure", very nice. You expect some bumps on a big night but not that many for an old restaurant that should be happy to see customers in the winter. Never again!!!!
P.S the food was just OK, not worth the hassle. Did I mention never again!!!

“Great Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

The location is right on the Beach which would be great in the warmer months. There was a snow storm going on when we ate there. W were the only ones in the restaurant but there was a wedding going on upstairs.

Our server was tops. Very helpful in assisting us with wine and food choices. We both chose the Seafood Sampler(baked stuffed shrimp, Natucket scallops, haddock). A nice crisp tossed salad and homemake bread with olive oil, olives, fresh grated cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar was almost a meal in itself. We both packed up half of our meal to go. The server didn't make us feel rushed at all. Everything was timed so that we could enjoy each course. There ws no room for dessert but the selection looked yummy.
