“Superb Pho”

With a good broth not really overpowering the beef is fresh .. Would highly recommend this to everyone who will visit Newport.

“Excellent Vietnamese Cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2014

I don’t get out to Vietnamese restaurants too often, and my wife had never been to one. So it was a delight to find one just outside Newport on a recent trip AND to see how highly-rated it was on TA. The reviewers were spot-on.

So imagine my disappointment when we showed up at noon on a Sunday to find they were closed. That just made me more determined to return for lunch on Monday.

After sharing an appetizer of summer rolls, plump with noodles, shrimp and pork, we both opted for the Bun noodle salads. My wife did the grilled pork, and I had grilled pork and shrimp. The owner enthusiastically helped us toss the salads with the sweet and sour dressing, and we pretty much devoured them. We were pleasantly full, sated rather than stuffed, but still there was no room for a dessert of Vietnamese iced coffee.

Bottom line: great food wonderfully seasoned, reasonable prices, friendly staff, you can’t go wrong. And to echo other reviewers, don’t be put off by the surroundings, or you’ll be missing a true gem.

“Fabulous Vietnamese Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

We were in Newport for a couple of days, and wanted something Asian ... especially fresh vegetables! We found Sunrise on TripAdvisor, we had Chinese Broccoli, then an Eggplant dish with scallions & olive oil, a Rice Noodle Salad with Vegetables and Grilled Pork, and finally Mixed Vegetables with Chicken in a Curry sauce. Everything was really well done, it was a great find.

“Don't judge a book by it's cover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

My wife are visiting from Seattle and just returned from an excellent meal at Sunrise. It was just exactly what we were jonesing for.
We walked in at about 7 and was surprised to find no other diners in the dining room. Three other couples arrived shortly after we did. The restaurant really has no curb appeal at all but don't let this stop you. The Duncan Donuts is the obvious landmark to look for. The food was fresh, artfully prepared, and had a wonderful blending of flavors. We really had to convince the waiter we wanted the curry quite spicy. It arrived with medium spiciness but the balance of flavors in the sauce were amazing.
Don't miss out on the eggplant that is on the summer list.
Wow, that good...

“Vegetarian and carnivore happiness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

Delicious meal. Vietnamese salad was very fresh and lovely. Hard to choose from this menu, which had many many more choices with vegetables and tofu than the Vietnamese places in the DC area. Carnivore dad happy with the basil chicken fried rice. Sweet and attentive waitstaff too. Go!
