This was second visit to Anthony's Seafood. On both visits the seafood was excellent. When you walk in, it is a fresh fish counter, where you can take the food to go. Otherwise, you can scan a menu and order at the cash register. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available. You are supplied with table settings and then your food brought out to the table. The chowder is thick, creamy and full of real clams! My friend had the appetizer of stuffed clams and they were not just full of bread. We will come back.

If you want high quality fresh seafood at an unpretentious place that doesn't pretend to be anything but just is a casual fresh fish place, this place is for you.

Order at the cash register, take a table, the server finds you and delivers a piping hot delicious fish dish. Stuffed scrod is amazing; fresh tuna sandwich is a great value. The dinner entrees include 2 sides of choice. I had salad--very crisp and fresh.

Great for families or friends. Not romantic! It's rustic but that's what people who go there know and like.

This place is about 15 min from the tourist part of Newport. It was recommended by a local sailor and also highly reviewed on Yelp. I had the Portuguese fish chowder (yum yum), little necks on the half shell (very sweet and fresh) and the Lobster Special (2 boiled lobsters of total 3+ lbs, butter and corn on the cob). #1 Son ordered the seafood stuffed baked sole (not great - too much nonseafood stuffing) and 'volunteered' to help me devour my crustaceans (testing my commitment to Motherhood again!). I gave him 1 of the 2 and was still satisfied with my remaining monster.

We went early on Sat evening, around 5:30 pm, and waited 10 min to order and be seated. When we left, the line went out the door into the parking lot.

Cod so fresh, flaky, and tender. Lobster rolls with huge chunks of lobster. Yummy

Restaurant located to the side of the fresh fish stand. You can see the product before you get it.

Really a place not to miss

We will come back

Wile visiting Newport and staying in Middletown, we were told by an employee of Newport winery to try Anthony's. After checking on Trip Advisor and seeing the number 1 rating, we headed out. We were not disappointed. It is a combination restaurant and food market. While standing in line to order, we happily decided on boiled lobster, steamers and stuffies. Stuffies are a local clam, cut up and broiled with stuffing. Good! My husband loves to eat outside so after ordering our meal, that was we did. Everything tasted delicious. Not a complaint to be had. Red bliss potatoes and corn on the side were excellent. Reasonable price for a lobster meal of $22. They do have a small sampling of wines to choose from to accompany dinner if you want. We stayed at the Hampton Inn, a very nice hotel, which was close to Anthony's.
