We stayed in the "historic" part of this hotel which, according to the website was "recently reopened following a multi-million dollar restoration". More like multi-million Yen and one can only assume that "recent" is on a historic/geologic timeframe. We were unable to find the "carefully restored interiors with luxurious furnishings" instead small, tired bedrooms in dire need of sprucing up.
The good - comfortable beds (except the rollaway which was awful); fast and free wifi; proximity to the beach.
The bad - small and tired rooms with thin walls
The ugly - a general lack of cleaning in both the bedrooms and common areas, musty smell throughout. I cannot recall staying in such a dirty hotel.
Rooms in Newport are expensive in the Summer but at $300/night we would never go back here - I'd settle for a Holiday Inn.More
