“Very Beautiful- I want to live in this hotel”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

The hotel is so beautiful. At first we were sad that we weren't staying in the main part of the hotel, historical building, but after seeing our room we were VERY happy. We loved the suite style room, a seperate bedroom, living room and kitchenette. The bathroom was amazing, the deep long tub was a dream. The beds were so comfy. It was located within walking distance of so many things. We enjoyed walking around so much. When we wanted a bottle of wine there was a store right around the corner and an opener in our kitchen. very nice. It was quiet and relaxing.

I havent been in Newport since my childhood and all I coudl remember was how amazing it was. Well, this hotel, pardon my expression - SUCKED. We requested a suite and got a 2 bedroom 1 bath room. MInd you the bath wasnt IN BETWEEN the 2 rooms it was in one of the rooms. Thus, everytime the guests from the other bedroom needed the bathrrom, they had to walk through my room. The window woudlnt stay open, and it was HOT. The room barely fit the double bed.. thus leaving no room to walk around. We werent told about amenities. OH, and how coudl I forget they CHARGED us to keep our 2nd car (rmember 2 couples, = 2 cars) in ANOTHER lot. They would not allow us to stay in the lot across the street, we had to go to an unattended lot near the water - and pay $10/day +tax for that! Only 1 room had a fridge and coffee machine (not ours) .. SAE your money and either get a SINGLE room or the 2 be=ath 2 bed suite. The single bath suite was horrible.

Dear Lilmiqui,

Thank you for your review of the Newport Beach Hotel and Suites.

We apologize that you were not aware that the particular two bedroom suite you reserved did not contain two bathrooms. Our room description is very specific and is detailed on our website. Many of our guests are traveling with children or in other situations where they do not require two bathrooms. In the future, our reservations staff can assist you with finding a two bedroom suite that contains two bathrooms, or you can get specific room descriptions and floor plans on our website.

With regard to our overflow parking lot at the beach, it is not the case that this lot is unattended. Although the lot is open during the day, we do have nighttime security. While we would love to be able to provide a free space for all of the cars that our guests bring, we simply do not have the room to allow for multiple cars per room. Rather than charging all of our guests for the cost of maintaining our overflow lot, we have chosen to adopt a fee of $10/night for additional guest cars. Our parking charges are well below other similar properties in Newport and Middletown.

Please let our front desk staff know if you have a specific issue with your room, such as a window that will not stay open. We have engineers on site who would be happy to fix this problem so that you are not too hot. Additionally, each of our guest rooms has a thermostat which can be adjusted to your preferred temperature. To find your perfect temperature, we encourage you to warm your hands over our rooftop fireplace, cool down with a cocktail at our Ocean Bar and Grille restaurant, or chill out by taking a dip in our pool. Consult our guest directory for additional activities in Newport.

We appreciate your feedback and hope that you will stay with us again at the Newport Beach Hotel and Suites.

Dear MemphisKat69,

Thank you for your review of the Newport Beach Hotel & Suites. We apologize that the coffee cups in your room were not sufficiently cleaned. Although we have strict cleaning standards in our hotels, we do occasionally make mistakes. We have brought this issue to the attention of our cleaning staff so that it will not occur again. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

We are happy that you enjoyed the Caesar salad and clam chowder at our hotel restaurant. We opened the Ocean Bar & Grille for the first time this season and are very excited to have executive chef Lyle Morse as a member of our team. If you are interested in learning more about our restaurant or catered events, please visit our website or call the hotel.

We stayed in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite across the street from the old hotel with a pond view. The room was huge and the bathrooms were fantastic. We had three TVs to choose from. The TVs are really difficult to operate. They take ages to turn on and sometimes you have to fiddle with them to get a picture.

The kitchenette was great because we didn't feel the need to rush out in the morning to find breakfast, as long as we picked up fruit, muffins and juice the night before. The kitchenette consists of a large refrigerator, stove, toaster, microwave, sink, cabinets with plates, mugs, glasses and utensils.

There's a small table near the "balcony" so you can slide the door open and listen to the birds, street noise or pond while eating breakfast, lunch or dinner, which was great.

We always felt as if the room was clean. The space is amazing and the showers were just perfect. The staff was nice and helpful.

Yes, the hotel is in Middletown, not Newport, but the Cliff Walk is within walking distance, and on a really lovely day you can walk to the mansions.

Cons:

Very noisy. If there is a heavy walker above you, you are in trouble. We could hear people in the hall, but having a suite allowed us to move to one of the bedrooms and tune them out. Too bad the same can't be done with the noisy hotels guests above.

There was a cold day we needed heat. The heater is our room was incredibly LOUD.

There are no clocks in the bedrooms. The time is on the telephones, but you definitely can't see the time if you wake up in the middle of the night.

No morning paper. Yes, I know this is best for the environment, but I do like a morning paper when I'm on vacation.

No info on local restaurants or nightlife.

Location – OK, so many people in previous reviews hit on the location for two reasons, one being that it’s not technically in Newport, but Middletown. Hard to disagree, as the sign to Middletown is directly across from the hotel, but the truth is we didn’t expect it to be right in Newport and liked being a little away from downtown and having the beach atmosphere across the street. It’s maybe a 6-8 minute drive to Thames Street, but if you prefer to walk out of your hotel and be in the middle of it, perhaps you should consider somewhere else (like the Francis Malbone House). The other small technicality is that it is not ON the beach. So perhaps it’s good marketing to say it’s beachfront, but the reality is the beach is just across the street. Oh, and the cliff walk is just a short walk down the street.

Amenities – Free wi-fi, just ask for access code at front desk. No room service. Indoor pool was great – although not large, it was bright, clean and has a large flat screen TV on the wall. We didn’t utilize the rooftop Jacuzzi or firepit, but did stop by to check it out and thought it was great – lots of chairs, tables, and the outdoor couch looked like a great spot to wind-down the night.

Room – We had originally booked a 1-bedroom in the new suites addition. Our room wasn’t ready so we were given another room. They didn’t mention it when we were checking in but when we got to the room we realized we had been given a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom. It was a pleasant surprise, and perhaps a result of our off-season mid-week stay.

The rooms were pretty much exactly what we expected…clean, comfortable and spacious. Flat screen TV’s in each of the bedrooms and another in the living area. Updated, crisp photos on the walls and tastefully decorated with crisp white/navy bedding and dark wood furniture. DVD players in the living area and bedrooms as well and you can borrow DVD’s from the library at the front desk. Both bedrooms had iPod docks if you wanted to listen to some music. The bathrooms were large – the master bath had both a whirlpool tub and a stand up shower and the second bath had a standup shower. The kitchen was sufficient for preparing breakfast or a small dinner meal. It did have the basics, pots/pans, cups, dishes, silverware, corkscrew, cutting board, etc. One of the pictures on their website showed a much larger kitchen then we had, with a full stove, oven, and counter with stools…I’m guessing that kitchen may have been in one of the corner units. There are at least 3 supermarkets within a 10-minute drive to stock up the kitchen. Also, our unit had a washer/dryer, not sure if all suites have that.

Overall a very nice stay and would definitely recommend it.

Oh, and one small piece of advice…Flo’s Clam Shack, just next door to the hotel, on Thursday nights has all-you-can-eat crab legs for $14. We found the place to have lots of character and the staff friendly and you couldn’t beat the price.

My husband and 3 children (ages l6-23) planned a trip for my 50th Birthday. The Newport Beach Hotel & Suites suited our needs perfectly. As we approached the beautifully lit hotel at night, It was not only impressive at first sight, but maintains the charm and appeal that one would expect to see in a New England style setting. We learned that the hotel's newer rooms were across the street, but we were staying in the older, albeit, newly renovated part of the hotel, which, for me, couldn't be more perfect! I prefer to be where the activities are, i.e.: the restaurant, bar, gym, etc. were all in our building. The staff greeted us warmly and were very accommodating in just about every way. Our rooms were decorated tastefully and the beds and linens...well...I never snored louder (according to my husband)! The beds were amaaaazing, the linens were warm, fluffy, and luxurious, then luxuriously luxurious to the l0th power! We had our own room with a king-sized bed and full bath attached, were separated by a living room, and the kids shared the 2nd bedroom with two queen-sized beds and their own full bath. There was plenty of room, it was immaculate, clean, had 3 Large HD Flat Screened TVs and all the amenities you'd expect in a fine hotel. I give this hotel the highest possible recommendation for its location (convenience to everything you might want to do in Newport), cleanliness, accommodations, and comfort!

We stayed in the new part of the Newport Beach Hotel & Suites for my neice's 4th of July weekend wedding. My generaous brother-in-law booked and paid for our 2 bedroom suite. Wow! It was exquisite. Lovely rooms, exceptional space and kitchen, fresh Starbucks coffee, the BEST and most comfortable beds ever, great bathrooms. The staff was perfect. All amenities were lovely - including the rooftop jacuzzi/porch, pool, etc. Very close to Easton beach (just a walk across the street) and about a quarter mile from the famed Cliff Walk. Continental Breakfast was not worth the wait (teen servers not so great) but we walked to a fabulous grille for breakfast and also hit Flo's for clam, fish and lobster rolls !! YUM and a very cool place. Less touristy and fussy than downtown Newport which was 2 miles away. Will be back.
