“Rather secluded”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

There was nothing which stood out for us at Second Beach. If you want to avoid the big crowds and traffic associated with the larger beaches then this is the spot for you. Off the beaten path.

“Skip the Beach Crowds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Forget Misquamicutt. Second beach offers the same ocean, none of the crowds, cheaper parking and a ten minute drive to downtown Newport.

“Best Beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Clean, great waves, no seaweed. This beach is always our favorite. Not too far from the snack stand for the kids, always clean, never overly crowded.

“Almost Pardise....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

This is beach for beach lovers ! Soft sand, nice waves for boogie-boarding, paddle boarding or surfing. The setting is devine, spectacular views and the dunes give the beach a tranquil vibe. The town provides trash bins, portable toilets and lifeguards. Additionally there is a bathhouse and snack bar in the "middle" of the beach. The parking is good--there is a huge lot to park in and several smaller ones. Three are a few outdoor showers too. Great place to play, or rest. You will not be bored.

“Best beach choice in Newport area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

Most folks have said it all in terms of good factors - a tranquil setting with great views of the surrounding area, nice water, clean beach, etc.
I really enjoy this beach and always go here when in Newport during the summer, but give it a 4 out of 5 only because of 1. the red seaweed that appears in August (not nearly as bad as 1st/Easton beach) and 2. the nature of the facilities - takes long time to get into parking lot on crowded day with lines down the road (yes, get there early), too few showers given the size of the crowd (have to wait awhile then feel rushed), small concession area (thus, long lines) and so-so bathrooms that are too small for the amount of visitors (also not the cleanest, but not nasty either).
My favorite attribute of this beach is that folks are generally considerate, nice and well-mannered in terms of beach etiquette. This is VERY important to us because we live in NYC and go to Long Island beaches (Cedar mostly, sometimes Robert Moses) where although the beaches are excellent you always have to contend with the unpleasant conduct of the ignorant, rude and inconsiderate people all around you. No such issues at 2nd Beach...
