“Great boogie boarding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

Most of this beach does not have any red sea weed. The waves are perfect for body boarding. The beach is clean, well lifeguarded. There are showers, changing areas, restrooms and porta potties near every access to the beach.

“Nice beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

Second beach is a bit farther away from downtown Newport, but it's only a 10 minute drive. It's actually in Middletown, RI, and the beach itself is very nice. There are parking lots (the charge is $10 per car), and there are many access points to the beach from the lots, not just one. The beach itself isn't very wide, so from the dunes to the water's edge is just a few feet. The sand was nice and fine, very white, not what you find on the Jersey shore. There are lifeguard stands, a concession stand, and outdoor showers. The view to the right is beautiful, all big houses and rocky cliffs. The view to the left is of the nature preserve. The parking lot was fairly empty when we got there at 11:00 am, but by the time we left in the early afternoon, the parking lot was completely full, so get there early if you want to park. The drive back to Newport is very easy, you pass a few full service restaurants, and the entrance to Easton's Beach (First Beach) and the Cliff Walk.

“Cant's beat summer in RI”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

This has been our weekend retreat every weekend since the temperature rose. I cant' say we've found a more pleasant place in anywhere on the east coast or in the Caribbean.

“Good Facilities”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

Second beach has good facilities and as along was the algae isn't washing up on shore a great place to swim and enjoy the sand. Parking can be a problem in the summer if you don't arrive early enough.
