I'm sure Crowther's was a great restaurant in 1950. The problem is, it looks like it hasn't changed since then!

On the plus side, everyone who worked there was very friendly and nice. They definitely made an effort, which is always appreciated.

On the minus side, the decor is definitely lacking, and a bit sad looking. The food was decent but not great.

We are regulars and have eaten with friends in small and large groups, with family, with young children as well as just adults, and have not been disappointed.
The bar is old-fashioned and mostly busy.
The seating area by the bar is intimate, however the "big" dining room is really unattractive unless filled with people, which seems to happen more often. Kenny has managed to bring people out, both all-year-rounders and summer people, and all are treated well.
Open every day of the week, there are specials such as "Oyster nIght" (Mondays), Lobster night (Thursdays), Steak & Wine night, etc. The food is reasonably priced.
The food is usually good. The fish always fresh, portions just right, steak cooked to order.
The only food we did not care for was the Buffalo Wings. Way too salty, too much of some pre-mix that tastes chemical.
The wine selection is limited but getting better, a nice selection of beer on tap, always fresh.
The service is professional and friendly. Both the more seasoned servers and the summer help are excellent.

Never have a bad meal or a bad time at Crowther's. Friendly crowd (even if you're not a 'regular")Food is fairly priced and diverse.Bartenders and wait staff ALWAYS friendly and welcoming. Could use a little "sprucing up", whatever, but can be overlooked for all its positives. What's not too like ?

The appetizer --calamari --was very unique and tasty and light. Not deep fried but sauteed with olives, tomatoes and garlic. The two entrees we tried were the New Bedford Sea Scallops and a special--pot roast.
The scallops were good. The portion was small. The pot roast was very tasty and came with mashed potatoes and spinach as did the scallops. The sides were fine. There is a good selection of draft beers. We dined in the bar and it is casual and homey.

The reason for the 'very good' vs 'excellent' review has nothing to do with service or food or atmosphere. It's the physical condition of the dining room. It needs to be updated. But, other than that, I'd give it an excellent! This year, I've been there several times with friends and alone. In all visits I've had different servers, including one time by the bartender because I ate at the bar. Food is excellent as well as the personalities of the servers. I met so many interesting people in the lounge when I was there just for drinks. I've also been for Saturday evening dinner and was entertained by a soothing and delightful guitarist. I highly recommend it.
