When the Nanny State implodes the Village Hearth Bakery will survive and thrive. They will make luscious bread. I will make yogurt. And we will be strong like bull!

I had been wanting to get to this bakery for some time. Since it was a beautiful, sunny afternoon in October, my husband and I decided to take a ride.
We were hungry after taking a long walk on the Cliff Walk in Newport. We decided this would be a great opportunity to stop in for lunch. As this was one of a few places I had been able to find almond macaroon cookies.
We arrived shortly before closing, but the gentleman behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. They had a very good variety of pizzas, cookies, fresh breads and bruschetta. We decided on the roasted red pepper and cheddar bruschetta, it was very tasty. We also took the last 3 almond macaroons they had, they were excellent and I wished they had more. There is seating inside and outside and it is very clean and cozy.
They have grilled pizza on Sunday afternoons and we are hoping to get back soon to try it.

The Village Hearth is a wonderful addition to the culinary choices in Jamestown. The make the BEST pizzas (wood fired) on the island, two choices only, a daily special and a stand by.and offer sandwiches and sweets as well. Sadly, Village Hearth is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

This place was terrible. When we got there wrote red the special. It was siting on the counter, how long I don't know. When we said we wanted to eat it there, the woman who appeared to be the owner, took it out of the box it was already in and put it on a metal tray and handed it to us.
There is no service. To top it off I make better pizza and I'm not good at it.

Our bakery offers high quality authentic Italian wood-fired pizzas which are 10-12 inches in diamater. If larger size is of main concern as evidenced by the review, than it might be best to go to commercial pizzeria chains which offer Large, Extra Large, Super Large, etc... Our pizza is authentic traditional (real) Italian style pizzas as served all over Italy with a thin crust and just the right (one) size for an individual serving -though certainly plenty for two. We make NO CLAIM that our pizzas are any bigger than what they are. Because we are primarily a bakery and offer many baked goods, our limited pizza day, Sunday, is designed as a system which is simple and streamlined. Each week we offer two choices: a standard "margherita" (plain) as well as a special of the week which varies widely (ie. white clam, or zucchini and onion, etc...). One can visit our web site, call, or come in person to learn of the special of that week. Unlike most pizzerias which are obviously set up to offer "everything pizza" we are small and limited so that our focus is on QUALITY vs/ quantity.
Also mentioned in review was a description of "burnt" pizza. -Wood-fired has a very different quality than the underbaked oven-ready pizza one might be used to getting from commercial pizzerias.
While we may have short banter between customers who we know we, none-the-less, treat everyone, local or not, courteously and play no favoritism as suggested by the reviewer. Our staff enjoys making pizza in our busy, party-like atmosphere. We take umbrage in reviewer projecting one's own possible frustartion at having to wait in line onto our staff who genuinely like eachother and have fun at work. Understandably, the frustration of waiting coupled with feeling hungry might make anyone cranky. It's a shame the reviewer hadn't actually tried our pizza. They may even have loved it -as most people do!

My family go here every Sunday night for their pizza! Their sauce is really tangy and the wood fired pizza is amazing. Try the asiago cheese bread to take home for a real treat! Cash or check only and loads of board games to play while you wait.
