“Beautiful place on a warm summer night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

Delicious meals.. Accomodating to changes.. Pleasant service...Beautiful outdoor seating.

I am allergic to seafood, so the name worried me.. But they have a wide variety of dishes and they use separate frylators for seafood and french fries (believe it or not, many restaurants use the same frylator for everything).. So it was nice just to be able to have french fries.. Which were delicious!

“nothing good to say”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2012

this restaurant is not an example of fine dining. The staf is tooo youn and inexperienced and giving 8 menus to four people because they have two different kitchens is ridiculous i travel all over the world and this is not an acceptable way to begin a dinner. The littlenecks should have been thrown back to grow and that is true of the oysters too. The tuna came out with a vein down the middle and when it was replaced it was served "grey." the fish soup is tasty enough but marginal and Joe's eggplant was as oily as can be. Avoid this restaurant

“Food is good, pricing and service are not up to par”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2012

We enjoyed the ambiance at Fish, but the food and service were not good. Service was young and inexperienced - hostess especially. We were told that we could only order from one menu even though they provided two - as there are two kitchens. Really? How about improving your logistics and not embarrassing your wait staff. Food was over priced and bland. I am sure it will improve but if you are used to fine dining, you may/will be unimpressed.

Location and remodel is great!

“Don't have to go to Newport to eat well”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

The food is about as good as any fish restaurant in Rhode Island. All the ingredients are really fresh: the seasoning appeared to be mostly fresh herbs and olive oil. According to our waitress, the mint chocolate chunk ice cream was made with fresh mint from the chef's garden at home (it was great and tasted exactly like mint in a garden as opposed to extract). As far as a benchmark, Jamestown Fish has better quality than a Legal Seafoods or McCormick & Schmick's but not at the level of Le Bernardin.

The restaurant has a patio menu and a formal dining menu. Since the weather was nice, we asked to sit outside and were able to order from both menus. **Be sure to ask for both menus** We split a margharita pizza (approx $15) for an appetizer but only finished half - only half to save room for the entrees. Most fish entrees (with a name like Jamestown Fish, located on an island, I didn't look at non-fish entrees) were $20 to $25.

The location makes the restaurant somewhat of a destination but it is much more convenient than dealing with the summer crowd/traffic of Newport. Service was good - informative, attentive, and accommodating but not smothering. Although we did not take advantage of it, the bar in back of patio was lively but not loud.

Overall, Jamestown Fish is worth the trip and we'll be back next summer.

“Great place to share sailing stories while dining under the stars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

Great al fresco dining--causal menu outside and more upscale menu inside. Wait to get table Saturday eve in July was 30 minutes. Liked the friendly bar scene outdoors with locals mixing it up with yachters passing through on trips. Joseph (outdoor bartender) and Peter (indoor-upstairs bartender) are both great hosts, real pros and attentive. The hostess welcomed our well-behaved dog, Zoe to join us outside. Pizza is terrific--had the sausage and pepper at waiter's recommendation and it was great, thin crusted and not overloaded. Also, have had the burger on another evening and loved it. Great piece of meat and perfectly cooked with nice, fresh locally cooked bun. With a name like "FISH" suspect the fruits of the sea are terrific, too.
