You don't have to go to Federal Hill, or pay Federal Hill prices, to enjoy amazing Italian food. Mikes's Kitchen is as far from fancy as you can get, but the food is incredible. As a vegetarian, I love the Eggplant Sorentino and the Polenta. The prices are reasonable to begin with, and made even better because you'll have plenty left over for at least another meal, maybe two. You will truly love the food!

Some of the best Italian food I've had anywhere, including Italy. Mike's Kitchen looks a little sketchy when you walk in; it's a VFW hall, after all. One spoonful of polenta, and you'll know you're in the right place. I've been several times and have had nothing but outstanding meals. The service is also very good, and the people watching--the clientele is mostly old-school Rhode Islanders--is stellar.

Make sure you call ahead to confirm the hours. They serve lunch and dinner, but not every day. I believe the schedule depends on the VFW's function schedule.

Mike of Mike's Kitchen knows Italian food. In all my years of going here I have never had a bad meal nor has anyone I have been with. From old world dishes like tripe, snail salad and favorites like calamari, veal parm, chicken francaise. no matter what you order it will taste delicious. The mozzarella triangles are stupendous - triangles of fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried with an thick, smooth red pasta sauce: so good! I always ask for extra sauce. They have seafood, which I don't eat, but everyone I've been with has said it is perfectly cooked and great tasting. Huge menu, all made on premises and fresh. By the way, check out the hours before go, they are limited (no dinner on Saturday night) and there is a line if you get there mid-to-late dinner time. It is open for lunch. Housed in a VFW hall means no atmosphere. Alcohol available at good prices. This plce is about the food!

Some of the best Italian food that I have had on this side of the Atlantic. The fried calamari is superb, the swordfish huge and cooked perfectly. Priced at no more than chain casual dining places, this really is casual dining - but the food is home cooked, oustanding and in large portions. Nothing pretentious here, just good Italian food in a very casual atmosphere.

I have been to Mike's kitchen a few times, this past visit was another pleasant dinner! Nothing fancy as far as table service, look, etc...this is a VFW...as casual as you can get....BUT the food is spectacular!!!! Mike's snail salad is out of this world and ANYTHING on the menu is worth trying once (or many times). Love this place! Will be back again and again!
