For 30 years I've wanted to see Daffodil Days at Blithewold but my timing was always off. This year I finally made it and it took my breath away. Thousands of daffodils were in bloom throughout the estate. Strolling through the property at a leisurely pace took about an hour. We also visited the greenhouse where camellias and other plants were in bloom, then through the tulip garden to see the early tulips in bloom, then down to the bay for beautiful ocean views. The mansion was open for tours but we had already seen this at Christmas time which was elegantly decorated and enjoyed that thoroughly as well. Blithewold is a great destination at any time of the year. So many unusual trees including two giant Sequoias. Definitely worth the trip!

This hundred year old mansion and surrounding gardens have a very interesting history that typifies the lifestyles of the successful entrepreneurs at the turn of the last century. All are very well preserved and explained. The daffodils were glorious at the end of April and the many rare and unusual plants, shrubs, and trees were just coming into bloom. I look forward to returning when the planned and almost funded restoration of the waterfront docks and boathouse is completed

It was rainy on the day we visited the Mansion, which was fine for the house tour. Everything was pristine, and the volunteers were helpful and knowledgeable. They let you go at your own pace, but were pleased to answer questions. Due to the rain, we opted to return later in the day when it cleared up, to walk the woodland paths and view the many daffodils and incredible selection of unusual specimen of trees. The greenhouse was full. The bamboo forest was quaint, and fun to walk through. There is a mature rhody cluster that dates way back. The grounds were just a wonderful as the interior of the mansion. I'd highly recommend visiting this site.

You enter a different era when you visit Blithewold, but unlike so many of the 'summer cottages', this one has a feel of ease, even while it is evident that this family wanted for nothing. Beautifully kept. And the gardens are wonderful, with their many specimens of plants, flowers and trees. Did you know that bamboo can grow - successfully! - in New England? Blithewold Mansion and Gardens are well worth exploring.

It was pretty here, though they really shouldn't have called it "Daffodil Days". We saw more daffodils earlier on the same day than we saw here. I know spring started late, but still. The grounds were still pretty, anyway, though, and I saw my first sequoia tree there.
