If you like mansions, then this mansion is nothing compared to the ones in Newport. The grounds are well maintained. The flowers gardens are just average, nothing particular. The harbor is nothing compared to the Cliff Walk at Newport.

Unbelievable gardens and a not to miss visit to the beautiful home that is a real RI treasure. The sleeping porch was my favorite along with the family stories. Excellent guide.

We visited this beautiful mansion on a late September day. What a beautiful day we had! I have visited many of the Newport Mansions, but I liked this better. The rooms were beautiful! I especially loved the furniture inside each room. It was a self guided tour, but there were docents nearby who shared their favorite stories. The outside gardens were an unexpected treat! Many of the gardens still had flowers in bloom on our late September visit. If you are anywhere in this area, plan a trip to Blithewold. You won't be disappointed!!!.

Lovely alternative to Newport's mansions. It's less crowded, and the grounds are spectacular. The mansion itself is quite small by Newport standards, but constructed beautifully and very homey. The big attractions for me, though, were the gardens, especially the small woodland area with its fountain and benches. Other special gardens include the rose garden and the rock garden complete with pond and lily pads. And, if you want to see a giant sequoia without going to California, you're in luck. The lawn runs down to the bay, so there are beautiful water views as well. It's a bit pricey to go inside the mansion, although if you just want to walk the grounds it's quite reasonable. The staff encourages you to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy yourself. I'd call ahead about wheelchair access to restroom facilities and the mansion itself.

This was a delightful place to visit. The gardens are lovely with some very nice specimen trees and gorgeous flowers. We enjoyed the bamboo grove and water view. The mansion is quietly elegant and has marvelous furnishings. It is a 4-story building but they allow visitors to see only parts of 2 of the floors.
They have an irrational policy of not allowing photography in the mansion.
The gift shop had unusual items, some with an ecology theme.
