“Dinner at jaffres”
Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

Our dinners were absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. Its also reasonably priced. The overall dining area is small, however, so if another customer talks somewhat loudly, you can hear every word of what they say. Overall , it's a very worthwhile place to eat.

“Small however quaint and the food is Excellent”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Being German and loving Italian food it was very nice to find such fantastic Italian food so close buy. I enjoy Italian samplers and their's is one of my favorites with ample portions for the price and very good taste including their smooth sauce! I have had it twice now and it is becoming one of my favorites. Wedding soup is also to die for! Parking can be a problem and seating is limited, however the food greatly makes up for these small shortcomings. Worth a visit if you like good Italian food!

“Wish the food matched the atmosphere...”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Jaffre's is in the Tin Lizzy, a historic tavern and (previous) hotel that has been restored and is very charming, with big windows, high stamped ceilings and a cozy fireplace. Loved the ambiance but our dinners were just slightly above average. I had cajun scallops, just 4 for $22, and the scallops were jumbo sized and tender, but any cajun spices were a bit lost in a minimal but watery sauce. When the server delivered the dish, she informed me they were out of carrots, so I received cauliflower without any forewarning or opportunity to make a different selection. With the white scallops, cauliflower and smashed potatoes gracing my plate, it was pale and looked somewhat unappetizing. The salmon and marsala chicken at our table were fine but nothing outstanding. The rasberry vinegrette dessing received high marks. One other plus: the drinks we got (sangria and red wine) were served in large glasses and were a nice portion size.
While we were eating, they moved tables around us and bumped right into my husband's chair.
All in all, we wished the food was better than "just okay," so we'd want to return more often.

“It's Different”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

Off the beaten path in Youngstown, next to Latrobe in an old hotel it has a lot going for it. It's a neighborhood bub, a Cosmo Lounge, a gathering place and a fancy restaurant all rolled into one. Anything I've eaten there has been tasty, some of the portions are heroic and the prices are not. It's owned by a young couple and they have done a fine job of making Jaffre's an enjoyable experience
